Why is my tacoma shaking!!?

My 97 tacoma 4x4 is shaking at speeds above 55 and also the breaks where all wobbly. So I checked the tie rods...... good. Ball joints ......good. New rotors and pads which helped the breaking problem but did not eliminate it and now the breaks are just as bad as they where 4 months ago. I had a mechanic check it over after I looked at it to see if they could find what the issue is. They came up with the same results plus they checked the alignment but they said its probably my tires. They are 33 bfg's, could the tire have that much of an impact on the shacking and break problem? My truck doesn't have a lift just rims and tires.

 

Are your tires balanced?

 

yea balance your tires and see if that helps

 

If the tires are already jacked up would that be lost cause?

I had a problem similiar to this when I first got my tacoma, it had aftermark wheels and tires on it when I purchased it. First off, yes, if the tires are bad they can cause the whole vehicle to shimmy/shake. Reason being, this trucks are light, and once you get oversized tires moving at higher speeds(50+), if their out of balance/round the can make your truck feel like a paint mixer. However in my case the problem was that they guy I bought the truck from had steel lug nuts on aluminum wheels. The result, the lug nuts ate out the stud holes and the wheel would not seat properly on the hub, which caused my truck to have a horrible shake. I put new wheels on it, problem solved. Hope this helps and I hope you get your problems resolved soon, there's nothing more aggravating then I truck that doesn't ride well.

 

I am having the same problem. Just had the frame straightened and the alignment done. Feels awesome at less than 40 or so. Getting a new set of BFG AT 32X11.50X15's put on today, I will let you know what happens. Has anyone thought it might be the driveline out of balance, or the carrier bearing is shot? I think that could cause a nice wobble at speed.

 

Well thanks for all of the help. I was able to get it figured out using the advice I got from you all to narrow the problem down. It so happened that the rims were bad thus the tires went bad as well as the rotors and pads. So there you have it. No more wobbling. I sold the old tires to my brother-in-law for his beater( he knows they are bad tires) for 100 bucks. I got rims and tires off of craigslist for 450 bucks and my rotors and pad were still under warranty, so not to bad of a deal.
