Paint damage from shell

Bought an '01 Tacoma witha shell. I have no use for it (and is for sale btw) and I am removing it, however, the seal rubbed the paint off the cab. Looking for advice on repairing the shell scar. Can it be repaired or is it new paint for the whole truck? (Searched, but couldn't find any similar threads...Thanks.)

 

I ended up getting my bed Line-x'd after removing the plastic bed liner and seeing all the damage it caused. I figure something like that would work good for you as well, even if you decide to put your shell back on later.

 

I think you're looking at major $ to fix that with paint and have it look right (color match).

Either paint the whole thing or line x it as suggested. I have seen trucks with line x on the back of the cab. Pretty sure they had the same issue as you, and that was the cheapest way to fix it. Didn't look too bad. You might even look into getting the line x color matched. It seems like I have heard of them matching to your paint.

 

Such cab paint damage is common with the pass-through boots / seals used with canopies.

The main issue is how picky you are about the looks of your cab's rear wall. Unless you're really picky, you can get by with having a competent paint / body shop prep and repaint the affected area only. Seems to me this would look a lot less 'patchwork' than going with Line-X on the rear cab wall.

 

I think if your going to do something do it right have a good body shop paint it. You'll feel much better about it.

 

Thanks for the replies.Looks like I 'll try a body shop as opposed to the line x idea.The paints still nice and I'd rather try and maintain its' integrity. Appreciate the help.
