I just made my own box. It's pretty much a complete bitch to get anything larger than an 8" behind the seats in a 1st gen. I figured out the max dimensions for putting it behind the driver side rear seat (also cutting the interior liner on the back of the DC), and made a box. I also ended up using an OLD 10" woofer that had a really narrow magnet because even more modern woofer I had would fit back there withOUT the box! Even then, I had to router out a little bit of the box to get the magnet have enough clearance. I'll try to post pics tonight...

I don't have a super primo system, just something with a little more low end than stock (also have a kenwood deck). So I wasn't really worried about the quality/age of the woofer I had (seriously, cerca 1993). But when I was looking into building my box, I did see several super low profile subwoofers, but they were way more than I wanted to spend...

That looks like an extracab. Building a box for those is easy. The 1st gen DCs are a whole new ball of wax.

I actually made a pretty cool speaker mount for my old '97 extracab 5 lug. Actually, it wasn't even a box, I took out the passenger side cargo door (the little door under the rear fold down "seat", and made a plate and mounted the 10" woofer to that. Then just sealed up the inside of the cargo area and lined it with dynomat stuff. Worked like a charm, and looked 100% stock as long as the seat was folded down (plus people could still sit on it).

well, i dont know if it will fit, but I have outperformed tacomas (same body style as mine) with a Jl 13w5 powered by a 500 watt JL amp. You may want to look into that. I fit it behind the seat of my 2005 double cab, so i dont know about the space comparison between the two of them.

it has a 2.5 inch mounting depth, and it sounds great

I can't say which one would be better, but since the back seats aren't the most comfortable anyway, I'm just going to give up one seat. Besides, anybody that ever rides in the back never pays for gas anyway, so why make it comfortable for them? :p

This is what I'm planning on installing this summer. I built up a cardboard version of the box to test fit and it should go on the floor behind the driver or passenger seats by moving them forward one or two notches. And the sub should pound pretty hard hopefully

I made a custom box for my 03 DC using the Pioneer 8" shallow mount sub. Its nothing fancy, I just wanted to feel the kick drum a little bit when i'm jamming and it works perfectly for that.

I've been wanting to do that in the future, but for a 10'' sub. I don't think it will work with a 10 though.

There's room for one just have to sacrifice a little let room.
It's all about the box. An 8" in a good box will out pound a 10" in a crappy box any day.

Hi guys I have a 2003 Tacoma crewcab. I installed 1 12" Fosgate shallow mount behind the back seat. I did months of looking, try different subs, I still have a 10" Clarion that sounds great but it was not enough, so I got the fosgate. Let me know if you wants details.

I bet you could but you would have to sacrifice leg room, I just wanted to still be able to carry 2 passengers comfortably in the back. I also wanted to keep the little bit of storage behind the rear seats. Honestly this little 8 in its down-firing box sounds great for my budget SQ setup.

Hell yea, man. I love my 8'sjust searching for more bump myself. It wouldn't take up much room the box I built was 13wX10LX12D which came out just around 1ft^3 and would fit a 10 sub it didn't take much leg room from the rear passengers.

Write up on the current setup, dual 8's.

A little fun box I put together when I got an 8" L5 for free. It fit between the back seat and console just fine and allowed my console to open up ~60% of the way, just enough to reach whatever was in the bottom console area.

:notsure: As far as I know there is no difference back there between a pre and 4x4.
