I have a 96 tacoma and everytime I crank it up the door automatically lock. I live on a farm and get in and out alot. This really gets on my nerves. Is there anyway to disable this without killing the power to the normal door locks?

    thanks, Ryan

I was under the impression that they could be programmed to not lock when the engine is started, but Im haveing a difficult time find ino to back it up. Here's a bump for ya.

I have a program that worked on an 04 that I had.I have know idea if it will work on a 96 but give it a shot.
Start with the key out of ignition, drivers door open, other doors closed.Next, insert key into ignition turn ignition from lock to on 5 times ending at on.(at this time ecu should make lights flash once and buzzer chirp once)next close-open-close drivers door(this turns automatic lock function off)next turn ignition back to lock.Lights flash twice and your done. .Hope this works for you.

mines sort of weird, it does it 85% of the time probably has something to do with being a 5 speed. But if the doors are closed and you crank it up the doors automatically lock. When you turn it off they unlock. This is my first toyota and I have also noticed that when you unlock the drivers door with the key it unlocks but you can let it go and turn it again and it will unlock the passengers on the second turn.

    Thanks for any help. Ryan

I had that same thing on my 2000. There was a program like described by Tman that is in the owner's manual to change that. I dont have the owner's manual on me, but I could get back to you with the way to change it.

This sounds like a function of an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry??? If the door is open when you start the truck do the doors lock?
