dumb question!

hello guys I know this might be a dumb question to most of you out there, but i wanted to know what is the difference between the sr5 prerunner and a trd pagckage tacoma. i own a 99 2wd sr5 prerunner and I'm just curious to know what the differences are. thanks for your time.

 

Pre runner is a 2WD with a beefed up suspension from the base model.
The SR5 model is mostly a trim package
TRD packages have lots of different features. They have been outlined in several posts around here.

 

Your PreRunner is a 2WD Tacoma based on the 6-lug (4X4) suspension setup rather than the 5-lug 2WD configuration.

Both the SR5 and the TRD Off Road Packages were factory option packages. Either or both might be found on any given 6-lug Tacoma.

 

ok thanks, but is the difference between them very noticible? like rear disc brakes?? or what does the trd has that the pre runner does not have?? is the engine the same. or is just cosmetical differences, thanks for the input.

My Tacoma is a TRD and it has the SR5 trim page. Also, there are Tacoma Prerunners with the TRD package.

Sometimes you can determine the difference by the badging. But more and more owners are de-badging or adding TRD stickers to non-TRD trucks. The one thing that sets a TRD model apart from non-TRDs is the electronically actuated rear differential locker, though not an obvious visual difference unless you see it performing out on the trails.

 

Well said. I had a 96 4cyl taco with TRD sticker (obviously not a real TRD though), and now I have an 01 V6 TRD that had the decals removed!

I'm all backwards.
