What??? My truck magically fixed itself.

Ok so my truck just magically fixed itself. For the past 4 years yes 4 Years of owning my truck the stupid parking brake light has been on continuously. The dude I got it from even said that it had been on for as long as he could remember. Well tonight I was pulling out of a parking space and as soon as I put it in reverse the light turned off. I was like WTF!! So my first thought was well as soon as I hit a bump it will come back on, well after driving still nothing. So my second thought was well the light must have just blown, so I get brave and pull out the parking brake guess what the light come on and as soon as I release it it goes back off. After at least 4 years possibly longer it just magically fixes itself. Dang I love 1st gen tacoma's and there magic ability to fix there selves!!!

 

Sweet deal, mine was on for about six months. Then it's been off ever since. Gotta love em'!

 

Cool man! It just amazed me that after at least 4 years of always being on and all of the sudden it works. I guess Toyota engineers develop things to go wrong then fix there selves after a certain amount of time lol.

 

You can also fix it yourself by spraying some WD-40 on the cable attached to the pull bar under the dash. Then work the parking brake a few times. That's what I did.

 

Really?? Never thought of that. I thought it was more of a sensor problem but who knows???

Maybe the bulb finally burnt out?

 

I thought that to. But I pulled out the lever multiple times and the light came on and as soon as I released it it goes back off just like it's supposed to.

The "!Brake" light on the dash is not actually just for the parking brake. It's also to notify you that you're running low on brake fluid. Mine came on after being offroad, hitting a giant bump that loosened a banjo bolt that bled brake fluid all over. I topped it off on the trail and it went away.

Our trucks are smarter than you think. I'd check your brake system if I were you.

 

Well I know that there is nothing wrong with my brake system I keep a pretty good check on all the maintenance. But I did not know that it monitors the fluid level.
