4wd clunking question??

    ok need some help.. its not a tacoma but an 89 toyota pickup.. when i throw it in 4wd it goes in fine and drives fine until i turn the wheel, either way, it makes an awful clunk clunk clunk noise.. sounds like a cv to me.. but all the boots look fine.. is there really a way to check without pulling it all apart to see.. then all back together while i wait for parts and then do it all over again?? or could i be wrong and its something else.. any opions appreicated.. thanks

    Are you turning on dry pavement while in 4 wheel drive?

    No ice covered road this morning.. could barely make it up a hill had to throw it in 4wd to get up and that's when I heard it
