New brakes for an 04 @100K

Posted this on the 2nd gen forum and forgot I was in the wrong forum.
My neighbor has a 04 Taco, does all maint himself and has over the numerous years of owning many Taco's.
He changed his brakes the other day , rotors and pads at 100,000 miles, on the fronts only.
I was very surprised that his brakes went that distance. Is this unusal ? He does 80% of his travel on the highway, 400miles per week .
He has a V6, supercharged, 5spd.

It is normal. I haven't got that mileage on my truck yet. But my buddy has 250,000 some miles on his 85 and he hasn't changed the front brakes in at least 100,000 miles. I think a lot has to do with your driving style. Automatic transmission trucks will go through brakes faster.

 

definitely has to do with the way someone drives.

my truck is an 04............with 50k on the clock now.....when i got it with 46k on the clock....brakes were shot....rotors,pads, and the drum had to be turned and rear brakes cleaned and adjusted. mostly has to do with driving style, and the way some people go about maintenance(or lack thereof). i just ordered some sp slotted rotors and some hawk lts pads for the front of mine............warped the driver side hitting a huge pothole a month or so ago.

sounds like your buddy has an easy driving characteristic and is up on his maintenance. the guy who had my truck before i got it didnt do anything at all for maintenance.

 

it is 80% driving style 20% maintance.

I tell folks if you want your brake to last, clean, lube and adjust every 5K with tire ration.

The fronts just need to have sliders move full side to side. Clean the lube if dirty.
Also the clips the pad site in should be cleaned.
The rear drums need simple adjust and relube the backing plate from time to time.

Also keep PSI in tires adjusted monthly.

 

I gotta do mine every about 12-15000 miles, Its the way I drive though
