    I have just bought a 1998 taco, 2.4 lt 4 cylinder/auto/2wds 154K on the clock

It is strickly a street truck that I will commute with and it might take me fishing and camping.

When does this rig need to have the timing belt changed?

does it have a belt or chain?

How hard is it to change the belt/chain?

    You have a timing chain

I don't think there is a recommended interval from Toyota to change them but if IIRC from reading here it's around the 150K mark

Don't take my word for it, I'd let someone else chime in first.
