Hello TacomaWorld, new member here, just registered but had been lurking for information which ultimately helped me in successfuly buying a stock radiant red 01 V6 AT PreRunner DC TRD a little over a month ago.

Since then, I've enjoy driving it so much that it quickly became my daily driver. Did the deck plate mod this past weekend and it drove great, intake roar was exhilarating.

Last night, after a few WOT the engine stalled. No CEL, engine cranks, takes a little bit longer to start but dies right away unless I keep my foot lightly on the throttle.

I have checked vacuum lines and found no cracks. EFI fuse in good condition, and have swapped EFI relay with TAIL relay with no improvements. My best guess is maybe a bad fuel pump, but would appreciate any inputs.

    Few questions:
    - does the Tacoma prime the fuel pump when key is in "ON" position? I do not hear anything from the back side of the cabin.
    - with a OBD2 reader in real-time mode, fuel pump #1 indicates "CL' (closed loop?), while #2 indicated N/A, is this normal?

    Thanks! :)

    Thanks for the reply buldas,

I just went out and checked, noticed that there's a plastic "shield" that only allows the maf sensor to be installed in one direction, and I remember the harness clip faces upwards before taking it off.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Sounds like the throttle position sensor or crankshaft position sensor to me and depending on the mileage I'd change out the exhaust O2 sensor (s). When its running is there little or good flow out the exhaust tip (with your hand over the tip) could indicate a plugged cat.

Check the wiring around the EGR valve isn't pinched or burned.

Make sure the throttle body itself is bolted tight on the manifold.

Sorry I can't offer any other help.

pull your throttle body and clean the idle air control valve. I have 2 3.4L V6 in the yard that had idle problems and cleaned both iac valves and all is well.

Thank you guys a million! Pulled the throttle body and idle air control valve last night and found nasty amount of carbon buildup. After a thorough cleaning the truck idles and runs smoother than ever.

I guess it might be a good idea to run a bottle of sea foam to clean the rest of the engine.

I figured thats what it was. Most of the time idle problems are caused by that. Good to know its running well now.
