Need help removing leaf springs

My truck is on jack stands, and i am trying to remove my stock leaf springs off of my 98 4x4 tacoma but i can not get the springs to come off of the shackle. the inside plate is off but the leaf will not slide out...any advice?

are you trying to get the spring off the truck, or the axle off the spring?? or both?

lots of wd40 might do the trick. I like to use "nuts off"

 

Ohhhh yeah...I can remember those days. It ain't fun.....
The metal sleeve in the bushing is probably fused to the shackle.

Have you sprayed the area with penetrating lubricant? (PB blaster)
Spray it and spray it some more and let it soak, and spray it some more. If you're really LUCKY, that'll help.

On my old 96 - I had to get a spring shop to torch the stuff off. Ultimately, it destroys the bushings in the process.

 

iv tried that too man, nothing..i swear its welded on there or im just doing something totally wrong, should just slide off to the inside am i right?

iv only tried WD 40 does something work better for this?

If you can get your hands on some kroil, that would be the best. "It's the only oil that creeps"

 

i know this is a terrible pic but its the best one i have for right now

right behide the pipe is the shackle, i have the nuts off of the shackle and the inside plate removed, but the leaf wont come out

 

is it hard to find?

 

it's easy if you do industrial work. i've never seen it at napa. you could try pounding a wedge shaped piece of wood in there, it's worked for me before.

 

Just in case you're not familiar with what the shackles look like....
You already removed the plate. The other parts of the shackle are all-one-piece (like C shaped).


What happens, is the metal sleeve inside the bushing will rust/fuse to the shackle pin making it nearly impossible to remove. If you've tried PB BLaster or Kroil and let it soak for atleast an hour (or days)....

You might need to torch the stuff off and/or CUT the shackle.

 

okay i will try the PB blaster today but i cant afford to cut the shackles, then i would have nothing to drive until the new ones came in and i cant afford them right now

 

try freezing it and knocking it out with hammer. computer duster will work

 

hard to tell by that pic whats going on but just trying to through anything out there before you have to go to torching or something to that extent

definitely gonna need new eye bolts..............and if the shackles are bad...replace them too. when i put in my new springs back in the summer.............i had to cut/ torch the springs/bolts to remove them..................the bushing sleeve was rusted solid to the bushing. it wasnt fun by any means. if you can get new bolts................just cut them springs/bolts outta the way.
