2000 tacoma v6 2wd prerunner trd w/127,000 original miles blew a rod

i did a lot of research before buying a tacoma knowing it would be a great car.

the tacoma i bought was in immaculate shape inside and out. my mechanic had checked it out before i bought it, put it on the rack, drove it, and said it would be a great car for many years. under the hood the engine and tranny was spotless.

i was the third owner, original owner was a leasing company that owned it for several years and then the second owner, who i bought it from in july of this year.

i was given all the maintenance records, it even had the invoice and sticker price when the car was originally purchased.

it drove like a dream shifted smoothly just like a taco should be.

the second time i drove it, it started sputtering and acted like it wasn't getting any gas, and the check engine light came on. i immediately dropped it off at my mechanic's place even though it was after hours so he could look at it the next day.

the mechanic drove the taco up the road to test drive it and it began shaking violently and a rod knocked a piece of the engine block completely out between the exhaust manifold and the head gasket on the passenger side of the engine. the piece was the size of 1 1/2 " square. my mechanic could not believe this happened on this vehicle. he said in all the years he has been a mechanic which for him has been over 20 years, he has never seen that happen before, especially on a taco.

please give me any advice on why this might have happened. i am getting in touch with toyota on monday to discuss this further. i have seen on the web many guys telling their story of owning a taco with 2, 3, 400,000 miles on it with the original engine and transmission.

 

Not sure what you expect to get from Toyota since it's a 13 year old engine with 127K miles.

It's not like every single engine Toyota ever made lasts forever.

Dude, that sucks. There's always going to be a dud, though- I guess you got one of the few.

What did your mechanic say?, he looked at it.

 

he just looked at it briefly on friday, because this just happened thursday evening. he will look further into it on monday.
