Stock suspension sagging. OME 881, 883, plate bumper with winch. So confused...

    Ok so I originally had no added weight on the front end of my truck. The lift is a drop bracket combined with a spacer at the top of the shock. Both shift everything down 4 inches while still allowing the use of the stock suspension. But currently things are getting pretty saggy. I haven't decided on a shock yet, but I'll get there. What I'm more confused about is the springs. I was under the impression that 883's were for use with a bumper and winch. But now I seem to be getting conflicting information an I've been told that the 881's will bring it back to where it was before. So is this what will actually happen? 881's will bring it to stock height with the extra weight, and the 883's will lift it further?

    Just ditch that spacer all together and get an extended length coilover.. ride better and be safer!

    Lift, tires, wheels, bumper, winch, sliders, skids, regeared
    881 = stock. 882 = plate bumper. 883 = tube bumper. As far as I know, the 882 are not recommended anymore by OME and 883 is what you should go with.

    I originally had 882 with a tube bumper and a winch, and it was too stiff. I went to 883s and they work perfectly.

    I was under the impression that the 882's are a different length than the others.

    Not that I'm aware of, just stiffer. Mind you, all of my experiences were last summer, maybe OME changed them up?

    Anyone else want to weigh in on this? Wheelers offroad is telling me to go with the 881, as the 883 will give me more lift which pretty contradictory to almost everything else I've heard.

    881& 883 are the same length coil. 883 just has a higher spring rate, i forget the numbers. So when a heavy bumper and winch are added the 883 will give more height because it will not compress as much as the 881 with the added weight on the front.

    I'm running 2nd gen. OME 883# in front with 1st gen. Tundra 5100's & got right at 3" lift, its a firm ride but way better than the preload ride i got when adjusting the ride height clip up with stock coils, if I was going to run a plate bumper w/winch I'd probably go with the Eibach/Toytec coils tho', the OME's are known to sag a little after a while..

    881 is 500lb/in. 883 is 590lb/in. They are the same length. I am running 883s and got an easy 3" lift. But I have a regular cab 4cyl. I just added a plate bumper and winch. It didn't change the height, but I'm sure it will over time.

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
    881s and 883s are the same free standing height. 882s are like 20mm taller or something fre standing height.

    881s and 882s have the same coil rate as its the same wire. 883s are a higher spring rate due to a thicker wire.

    881s give between 1-1.5" lift after settling.

    882s give 2.5-3"

    883s give 2-2.5"

    882s aren't recommended by OME anymore as they try and over extend the nitro charger shocks.

    883s are recommended for extra weight. Add the 10mm trim spacer to add more lift if they sag a bit with plate bumper winch and skids.

    Any recommendations, I kind of like this idea? I don't even know how long the stock shock setup is to be able to add 4 inches to it.


    Thanks to everyone who commented. Currently I think I'm going to go with Bilstein 5100's set at 0 with the 881 springs. This should return me back to stock height with the weight from my bumper/winch/skid Then if I decide I want more lift I can bump them up to the next setting.

    Hold the phone chief.... These coils aren't meant to have much pre load on them & bumping up the adjustment clip will increase preload quite a bit, it'd probably make for a very harsh shitty ride....

    Hmmm, I've kinda been thinking that the OME struts will be better off in the long run regardless.

    If you're going to do a bumper, skids, and winch, go with the 883s. Works great on my setup (Nitro shocks from OME is what I'm using)

    But the difference here is that I don't need the 883's to give me any lift as the lift is accomplished with the spacer and diff drop. If I get the 883's and they give a truck that is similarly weighted a couple inches, then I'll have 6+ inches in the front and not nearly that in the rear.

    Ok, so I have decided to go with the OME setup and not billys. But I have one more conundrum. The 881's with my current weight will bring me to where I want, BUT i could go to 883's and get 2.5 or so inches of lift. So, would it be beneficial for me to go for 883's and replace the 4 inch spacer with a smaller one. Or just keep it there and go for 881's? Is one going to perform better that the other?
