97 Tacoma surges at a stop

I tried posting this on toyotanation.com, but apparently nobody has any idea, or they're too ignorant to say anything. They've never really helped me out, anyways, here's the problem..

So, my 97 Tacoma, w/ the 2.7L in it blew a head gasket back in November. Got that fixed, changed both o2 sensors, checked the cat, its good. Exhaust manifold was cracked so I had to get another.

Now, Somehow when I was taking the intake manifold/throttle body off of the engine before I took the head off to change the head gasket, one of the wires came out of the plug for the IAT sensor. I didn't realize that it was this until I got the whole thing back together and started driving it, had to turn up the idle for it to actually idle, then it idled right. it threw a CEL, but it was drivable, but it wasn't the same. It didn't have the same pep and wanna get up and go. Which was Idle Air Temperature Sensor Malfunction.. so I pulled the throttle body off and saw that the wire was out of the plug.

Anyways, I got the plug fixed and hooked it all up. High idle, I think CRAP. But, then I realized that in order to get the temperature up for the o2 sensors and catalytic converter its gonna idle high for a few mins then go back down, but it was never up to 2k, it always idled at about 1500 or so.

But, now when I come to a stop it surges kinda, then stops. But it does this everytime I stop. Anyone have any ideas?

As far as I know they are. Didn't surge at first when I changed out the head gasket and put it together, started after I fixed that sensor. I know there's an exhaust leak at the donut gasket right off the exhaust manifold, but I'm not sure that would cause it to surge. As it had a cracked exhaust manifold and a few other exhaust leaks before the HG blew.

 

I'm gettin' there. I'm in the process of helping my dad build a lowrider, 2wd 89-95 body style dually pickup. it's gonna be sweet.

 

Yea, it's a 5 spd. depends on the stop. I'm out the country so every stopsign is different. Usually downshift to 3rd then take it outta gear and coast.

I'm for some reason thinkin' it may be a vaccuum leak, might have something to do with the throttle body having to come off to fix that sensor.. I'm not lookin' at the motor right now, but I believe vacuum lines do come from the brakes to the throttlebody..

 

I won't drive it unless it's a manual.

Damaged seal where?

 

I know the gasket that goes between the intake manifold and throttle body is new, I got the whole gasket kit when I did the HG. And I just replaced both coolant lines that go from the throttle body to the block, I know that wouldn't have much to do with it, but I'll have to check the hoses over and see if they're dryrotted. She's 12yrs old, so there's a possibility. I just wish she'd start runnin' like she did before the HG blew.

 

My guess with the age of truck, I would start looking at all the vacuum lines...

 

man she's got 235K on her and she runs better than my uncles 06 v6 taco, outdoes it in the mud too. 3rd place in the first bog, made it 42ft. farther than my dad in his lifted toyo pickup w/ detroit lockers.


(I come from a Toyota family. My dad, stepmom, step sister, and me plus my gram and all aunts and uncles drive toyotas... hahah )

 

When I get this problem fixed she should be good for another 200k if not more.
