1st gen. rear leaf pack or aal

okay guys, i've been looking forward to lift my 95.5 tacoma for quite some time now but didn't have the funds to do so. i have a few questions to ask:
my lift i want to lift is 2" and 1" to 1.5" in the rear keeping my 31" tires. I
got a shopping list i like you guys to check for me if i'm on the right track.

1. look at the pictures i provided below, do you think the leafs are still good or bad?

2. if the rear leaf are bad, i have two choice: 1) leaf pack 1.5" 2) aa 1.5" saves more money with aal. reason why i want to buy the leaf pack is get new suspensions so it will last for more years to come. aal with the current stock ones, not sure will the leaf be need to be replace.

okay so i guess i will pick up a new leaf pack. what do you think about the shopping list that i got off from wheelersoffroad? pretty much, i like to run raise a little higher than stock and keeping my stock alloy wheels with 31" tires. lets say i want to put 33s" on? will i have clearance on the fender to run those 33s?

 

You have the U-bolts listed twice, but you do not have the main eye bolt (the bolt that hold the front o fthe leaf pack to the frame). These are notorious for being corroded and seized, and many people have to cut them off. Get a pair from Wheeler's for cheap insurance.

However....what the hell kind of springs are those? My stock leaves had 3 leafs plus the overload, but yours have only two leafs and the overload? WTF? I see your truck description says "95" but is it a Tacoma, or an early 95 pre-Tacoma? I am puzzled.

Actually, your leafs do not look too bad, because they never have much arch in them. However, they are likely bouncy and weak, and if you have the funds and want to lift anyway, the new spring pack is well worth it, and a better long-term investment than the AAL. I just went through this, and am very happy.

 

oooohhhhhh. Thanks, I didn't know that (obviously). The only springs I have looked at were all on TRDs.

And for the record, that third spring doesn't help much, IMHO...

 

yeah my truck is a 95.5 tacoma. the leafs i have on is what was came with the car when it bought used. yeah i didn't realize that i have two u bolt on the list.
i'm still puzzle about what leaf pack i should get. i've check on wheelers, they have dakar, alcan and wheelers pack. alcan are little over price range, dakar has only aal, that i know of. wheelers pack, i don't know if they are good. ome are good and good price too.

 

I have the Wheeler's 5-pack, which is made by Alcan. I like it. It helped vastly reduce axle wrap (so far). It squeaks a bit. I don't care. Lots of folks seem happy with them.

It depends on your application/use. Leaf packs that do not have an overload leaf will reduce your overall load capacity a bit, but give greater flex. If you are all about flex, that would be fine. If you haul loads, you probably want something with the overload leaf. I have a cap on the bed 24/7 and don't go on gnarly trails, so I opted to retain the most load capacity I could.

 

scocar, got a question for you. i saw your sig, how high did the ome 881 coil lift give you? im assuming you are running new struts and coils and leafs with just a minimum of 2" of lift for daily driving? the lift i'm planning on going is simliar to yours. how does your truck ride and how does it handle?
