Takin' a trip down to Ventura County-Trail run?

Takin' a vaca next week and driving down to Cali to stay for a good couple weeks along with staying with my relatives in Ventura County. Can't wait as I love it down there.

My Dad is going along with me part of the way and we're going to the Pebble Beach Concours and historic auto races at Laguna together along with doing some riding around that area while we're there.

From there after the show he's riding his motorcycle back up, as we're trailering our bikes down behind my truck, and I'm headed down to Ventura to stay an extra week-week 1/2 with my relatives, do some riding and see a couple of college buds.

Anyway, I was thinking it'd be awesome to do a (light) trail run somewhere fairly near by if anybody wanted to go and show me around a little. Not looking to do a day trip drive type of thing to get there by any means, but if there's an area that any of you know that isn't too far away like more than a couple hours or so to get there, that'd be chill. My truck is stock (TRD 4x4), so not looking to do anything crazy at all especially being that I gotta drive it back home so can't break anything. The past two years I've been going to college down there, but I did not own the Taco then so I'm not familiar with any trail runs or anything around there. I'll be down in Ventura the 16-25 and won't know my schedule day by day until I'm there yet, but send me a pm or post up if you'd be down.

prob the best place would be hungry valley, it's less than 90 min away from Ventura, or there is camino cielo up in santa ynez, about an hour north of ventura

hungry valley is a large offroad ground w/ alot of trails (easy to hard)

camino cielo is an easy trail along the santa barbara mtns with some killer views.

Is Camino Cielo mostly paved/graded or is some of it good wheelin' trail? We've been thinking of heading there.

there is a big section thats paved, but alot of it is dirt too. but it's super easy, pretty much a dirt road. there is one part thats on a sloap thats a bit more rocky and steep, but it's not that bad. it's at the begining or end, depending on where you start. we started in santa ynez, so for us it was at the end, and uphill.

Cool, thanks for the info! We like the exploring, but get a little bored when it's all paved/graded road. Sounds like it's easy on the Santa Ynez side, rougher on the 154 side? Do you go into santa ynez, or over to Nojoqui park?

 

we started in santa ynez and popped out at the top of the 154 grade.

it's an easy drive but well worth it, there's fun to be had up there

IIRC the paved section is maybe a sixth of the whole trail... give or take...

Yeah, sweet pics! Would definitely be down to hitting either of those areas.

I saw the thread for the hungry valley trail run that's comming up, but am not going to make it.

Ha small world, I grew up in moorpark amd fam still lives there. Few guys on here live there too. Let's do a day run on a sat while ur down. If no time I know a very small place to get in the dirt in moorpark. Pm me when down here.

Ya that camino ceilo looks cool, I wouldn't mind checking it out...maybe the lil run could be up there.

 

we could do camino cielo, i think i remember how to get there. we would pick up the trail in santa ynez

it's really easy, nothing super cool but it does have a great view and scenery

it's a fun easy trail

 

Nice pics!! Man I miss it down there. I'm originally from Simi Valley so I would have been there for sure if I didn't live in Nevada. Oh well, maybe next time.

 

if u guys talking camino cielo u need to hit me up that is like my backyard now hit that trail 10-15 times now. its more of a ralllying fast pace road nothing technical at all good views and plenty of fun but dont be expecting to have to use 4x4 even the mud pits can be done in 2wd

 

There's probly some good mud up there from all the rain

 

there are some very fun 4x4 trails West of Gorman off of lockwood valley. The easy ones wood be fine for stock, PLUS there is snow...so its extra fun.
