Actually it was his tires that made me start thinking about the grey powdercoating instead of gunmetal. I like his alot. I just wonder what that would look like with the offroad wheels. so far i dont know of anyone that has powdercoated the stock TRD offroad wheels. and speaking of Brant's truck, the whole damn thing looks great. I'm not a huge fan of decals going down the side but other than that i love it

Factory BFG tire is 30.6" diameter. Same BFG tire in 265 75 r16 next size up is 31.7" diameter.

Not having any personal experiance and as I was only repeating what I have heard others say earlier in the thread, I am un-sure how to accurately advise you.

I would suggest first and formost looking up the actual measurements of the tires you were thinking about getting, because even though each company uses the same "size" a BFG 265 70 r16 is not the same diameter as a cooper 265 70 r16 (the Discoverer AST II in this size is 30.2")

Second I'd go and park your truck somewhere like this. http://www.tacomaworld.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/484/cat/500/ppuser/511/sl/m (I hope you don't mind that I borrowed your picture Mark.) Not necessarily using your front steps, but a big rock or hill off road, maybe even a cinder block in your driveway. Then after properly blocking the wheels and such get under there and look at your clearances, particularly with the wheels cut hard in both directions. remember that the inch bigger diameter is from edge to edge of the tire, so you are really only looking for a little better than a half inch of space at full turn and full compression to prevent rubbing.

BTW I think the smoke grey wheels would be really sharp.

ND...I did a search for power coated wheels and nothing with TRD wheels. Then I tried to use paint to make a set look 'sort of' decent and that didn't work out so well! So, your best guess is as good as mine! I think it would look good...what color is your truck and does it have a lift? I think on a 3" lift and some good tires it would be nice.

Snickrz: my truck in the picture is a 3" lift with stock 245's on stock 16's. I have ordered and will soon be getting 32" Mickey Thompsons on 17's in about a week. I will update the picture soon.

Thanks for the effort Snickrz. my truck is black. I would like to get a 3in lift but im not sure if i will. FU_FJ made a good point when he mentioned how well these trucks hold their value, especially when they are stock. That made me start thinking it might be a good idea to keep my truck as close to stock as possible. i'm still on the fence about a lift

Actually I just got my new wheels and tires put on... And I just payed the bill... So I will be trying to sell my old wheels and tires. The bill was big. But everything else I will keep.
I think I too will be too lazy to change everything back if I sell or trade my truck later, but at least you can give the stuff to whoever gets the truck. They can change it if they want.

Cheap Eagle alloys, black with polished trim ring, and 32" Mickey Thompsons. Looks great. I will try and take a picture today and post it here. The black rims on the black truck look sweet.

You're right about black rims on a black truck, one of the best looks in my opinion. I loved it ever since i saw the black Taco in Back To The Future. I remember loving that truck when i was young..... and now

I do have a quick question regarding tire size. with a three inch lift, you are able to run 17 in wheels with 32 in tires. so my thought process is this. if you went with a one inch smaller rim, coulnt you go with a one ince larger tires. 17's with 32's fit, so wont 16's with 33's fit? that is just the thought process of a simple brain, i'm sure i'm overlooking something that you "truck smart" guys know. if this wont work, why not?

Simple answer, but it is often over looked so dont feel bad. The rim and tire size is the measurment of the diameter. That means the actual edge to edge, or height measurment. So a 32" tire is 32"s tall. This means no matter what size wheels you put in the middle the tire will always be 32". Only the sidewall or side surface ( where the name and size go) will change.

Sorry this might also help. 32"tire with 17"rim means 7.5" of tire on the bottom of the rim and 7.5" of tire on the top. 7.5 + 7.5 + 17 = 32. But a 16" rim on a 32" tie would have 8" on the top and 8" on the bottom. It would just have a bigger sidewall.

Reid: thanks for the explanation, that makes more sense now. Just to clarify, if i put 32's on 16in rims, it will take up the same amount of space in my wheel well as yours but side walls of the tire will just be a little taller?
