LOL... that's exactly what HD wants you to do. Their pricing is ridiculous on clothing and helmets, and they'll indoctrinate you to the "LIFESTYLE" so you'll keep coming back. Don't get me wrong, there are some fine Harleys out there, but I ride Victory for damned good reasons- namely, performance and handling. That, and I never could drink the kool-aid.... so I kept my sporty for almost three weeks.

dont know why thats funny.. I didnt buy this thing... I inherited it 3 weeks ago because my father in law passed away.... so thanks for laughing at that fact. (i know you arent laughing at the situation at all) but there is a reason why people call most cruisers "harleys" and not "victorys".. So, I will go to the harley shop and be happy about it.

not trying to offend at all. just stating the situation.

Don't know why you took offense at my comments. I was not laughing at any part of your posts or situation other than to say "go to anyone BUT a Harley shop" for what you need.

You could sell it and put the money towards a BMW bike?

well, I got the bike to my house last night without incident.. I gotta get a proper fitting helmet before I ride it again. But my mother-in-law did give me my F-I-L's harley boots so that is one big thing I dont have to buy.. I will probably get a helmet today or tomorrow along with some gloves.

the ride was nice.. nice night to ride through the backroads in the country.

i will post up a picture of the bike here in a little bit.

sadly, I've only put Husky Liners in it thus far - tend to blow all my cash on my bikes and guitars.
Nice ride........and as far as a good quality helmet, make sure that it's DOT and SNELL approved........and you can't go wrong with a full-faced helmet, they'll save your pretty face from more than just the road -- I got hit in the lid by a big chunk of plywood on the Interstate, my full-faced helmet saved my head from some serious damage!! I wear a KBC, but it's not a modular......think it was about $280
Modulars are about as good as solid full-faced comparables -- I just sway from them as the hinge point tends to be a "chink in the armor" if you get what I mean.......but I'm not riding a cruiser, I sport around on a land-missle

Good decision, and good luck! Money should be no object when you're buying safety gear

I use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 and change it myself. If you use Full synthetic oils they run 20 degrees cooler. And yes always remember that car does not see you. Even if make eye contact THEY do not see you.
As far as not being a sport bike you can put a 1200CC big bore kit and good tune and it will run. The Sportster was the first HD sports bike. Enjoy! linda road trip1.jpg Nice road trip with my wife
