Well it is finally in stock and here is the dilemma. Crutchfield, along with their superb customer service and being an authorized pioneer dealer is selling the HU, dash kit, ipod adapter, xm radio adapter, and steering wheel control for $1420. I can buy the exact same stuff without the dash kit from Amazon for $1060. Is saving $350 worth it? What are your opinions?

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
I always buy from a Authorized Dealer so I vote that. Piece of mind.

Have you verified that Amazon is not an authorized dealer? I have a hard time believing that Amazon is selling something that cannot be warranteed, assuming that this is directly from Amazon and not one of their vendor connections that is.

Sometimes at Amazon, the actual seller of the product can vary. When I was looking at a headunit, sometimes they would show the seller as Audiosource, and other times it was 6th Avenue. 6th Avenue is an authorized Pioneer dealer. If you click on the link under the item description, Amazon shows all the sellers of that product.

Here is the link for Pioneer's authorized retailers.
    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/authorized/mbg-authorized.html

Also, you may want to check out Al & Eds. They are an authorized dealer, and their website checks the competition for the lowest price.

i had a gentleman call me today in my office, that bought through Amazon. I kindly told him his warranty is void. We only warranty product bought through authorized channels. He was quite upset with me, but it is what it is. Transhipping is frowned upon in the 12volt world. Its the risk people take by buying online.

Is it worth the risk? Only you can determine that.

Whats it gonna cost if something goes wrong? Are you willing to pay for the unit to be repaired if something doesnt quite work correctly? Basically you have to think about it like this: if you buy on Amazon or Ebay, you are buying used equipment. (whether or not it has been opened doesnt matter).

Ebay yes maybe, but Amazon just looks for the best deals and they post them up. They have a section if you are buying used. I have bought almost every piece of electronics I own through amazon and I have never had any probs with warranty work.

Im glad you havent had any problems, Amazon is NOT authorized in any way. Some of the shops that sell via Amazon might be, but most of the 12v world is starting to track these sales, and warranty service on unauthorized purchases is going to go away. Since i am a manufacturer, i know what is going on from the inside when it rlates to these things. If you work in the 12v world, you would know what is happening very soon. Just be careful where you buy stuff from, thats all im trying to say, in a nutshell.

Ahh, interesting, kind of blows my theory from my post above. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for that tip. Looks like a good source, and no more or less expensive than the best price I found on Ebay.

Why are the prices so much cheaper on Amazon than with authorized sellers? Why would a manufacture sell stuff to people who are not authorized resellers? Why would the prices be cheaper in other countries on the exact same items?

Pioneer seems to believe that Amazon is an authorized reseller (leastwise for the X920BT and the Z120BT).

    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/rebate

That being said, it is good to note who the actual seller is when buying on Amazon as you can buy the same item from numerous sources on Amazon.

Looking to get a 920, dash kit, SWI-PS, and wiring harness adapter from Amazon for $700 shipped using the 30% off code - and then a $100 Pioneer rebate on top of that.

Wizzard that's what I did. Got the Metra dash kit and harness, 920BT, steering wheel control relay, and iPod adapter, all from Amazon. packages came in from all over, but the HU came direct from Amazon. Haven't sent out for the rebate yet though. I guess the forms are in the box? Or are they online somewhere?

I don't know what I paid, I ordered it in three shipments.

No pics yet as it's not installed yet. Have a guy here locally that's going to hook me up but I have to find a free weekend to do it. Still need to grab a video cable and vampire splicers to hook up the rearview cam.

With the Amazon Discount, and including the dash kit and SWI/harness adapters, it was about $725. Then there is a $100 rebate as well.
