how to override the trac cont when in 4x4

hey guys just wondering if there is any way to keep the traction control off when im in 4wd.... in 2wd it stays off then as soon as my 2010 tacome in 4wd it will automatically pop back on, witch is no good because i need to keep my wheels spinning in the mud. let me know what u think

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Not really sure why you would want this.

No point for removing trac in 4x4 as it does not affect throttle/power.

 

Playing around is the main reason. I turn TRAC/VSC off all the time in snowy parking lots...

 

If traction control doesn't work... then he should try open differential to spin his tires... Beats sleeping in the mud or snow!

The answer has been given... STOP the vehicle, Press and HOLD down the VSC OFF switch, for a few seconds... until the lights come on telling you VSC is OFF (which means TRAC is off as well)... OR You can go into LOW RANGE as there is NO traction control there... unless you have A-TRAC and turn on the A-TRAC.

In practice the VSC system will cut throttle, and apply brakes to wheels that are not spinning to re-direct the truck. It got me 99% stuck twice on my 6000 mile road trip in July. very frustrating that the VSC system does not have it's own shutoff. I resorted to using 4 Low at medium speeds, (15- 40mph), purely to keep the traction control, (ATRAC; in this instance).If the steering wheel is anything but perfectly straight, the truck's VSC system expects a determined amount of yaw to match it's mapping on vehicle speeds vs steering wheel angle. A big flaw in the latest gen of traction systems, and it affects more than just Toyota; likely because Bosch provides the technology to all OEM's

So the answer to the OP is disconnect the yaw sensor under the seat, full traction control, no VSC intervention.
Having to do things like the above is what interferes with driving, and causes people to not like the "latest, greatest, ...better than what you had before" technology from being accepted. Seems to justify many of the neo-Luddites, who posted negatively concerning the efficacy of these systems. However this is also a good reason why ATRAC is so valuable.....Or the TRAC mod....Or the selectable locker...
Or maybe why my old man's new F150 has a similar system to TRAC / VSC, yet has a mechanical LSD as well.....

 

Hemi has a twist on over-rides with his reply, but you are requesting traction control to be off, not the VSC (vehicle stability control). The VSC has an annoying beeper that goes off if you are four wheeling in loose sand where tires start to spin at different rate... fooling the system into thinking you are about to spin out. A VSC OFF/ TRAC ON choice would be great in H4.

What I don't get is you are saying in 2WD it stays off...? Well, only if you do what I said above, hold the button down while stopped until the lights come on. That is the same way to turn it off in 4WD High.

Now with A-TRAC (and TRAC perhaps), unless one tire has traction (to get you moving), your tires should be spinning as the system matches wheel rotation across the axle. You can see this easily on the 'sugar sand' video. If one of the two tires has traction, then the opposite tire will not spin, it will rotate at nearly the same rate as the traction tire (like a locker would do). If neither tire has traction, then they both will spin... with traction control.

IF you turn off traction control, it is likely that only one tire in front and one in the rear will spin... typical open differentials.

Has anyone disconnected the YAW sensor? Doesn't it generate a "check engine" light condition?

 

You'd only do it if your lift was giving you undesired VSC activation.
