    I just got it!
Could someone please go take a nice photo of behind their brake pedal? Someone drove my truck and kicked the crap out of my brake light switch, and I gotta get a new one and install it. The problem is that I can't tell how it fits in place and where because all the pieces are smashed up. Great, right?

It can be removed with 1/4 of a turn of the body of the switch. It sounds like they broke the mount too. I'll get you a picture later today.

How the fuck did they manage to break the switch?? I'd be worried about what else they did to your truck...

No worries, he's just a clumsy guy with big feet. He's paying for it. It comes in on Wednesday. It was $47.60 Canadian. So skytower if you could post me a pic by Wednesday I would really appreciate that, because right now looking at the mount that's there is just boggling trying to figure out how it's gonna fit together.

It was hard for me to see what holds the mount in. I didn't want to mess with it more today. I am going to Virginia tomorrow.
Hope it's easy to replace the mount!

I know this is old but I wanna say thanks for this thread.

I needed help when my brake lights started acting up. Turned out to be the switch was stuck. I just took it off and did what I had to do to get it unstuck. Hopefully this is a long term solve for it

Does anyone know what the toyota part number is for this brake pedal switch for a second gen?

I have been searching the dealer parts websites but I haven't been able to find it.

I just went through this on a Honda. If the Toyota is the same, when the switch is bad you have no brake lights and you can't disengage the cruise control by stepping on the brake pedal. I picked up the switch at Advance for $9. I don't think you need to go to the dealer for the switch. Again this was a Honda and not a Toyota. Looking at the pictures of the Toyota switch, the only difference was the Honda switch was black.
On the Honda there was a different switch if you did not have cruise.

Thanks for the tips Larry. I can't speak about the cruise control, but am having intermittent times of no brake lights. What is scary is that as the driver you don't have any idea if your brake lights are working or not. I will check out my local aftermarket parts place; I can't see paying about $50 for a switch you got for $9.

My truck is similar to your's, except I have 2008. Let me know if you have Advanced Auto where you live. I can drop you some coupons that will save you a couple of bucks towards the switch.

The part number is 8434009070. It's listed as 8434004040 at rockauto.com which has it for $21.79

I usually will tell people if I have the chance if the brakes lights are not working, cause chances are, they don't know.
I'll leave this comment alone. :p:D

I went to my local Auto Zone today and they couldn't even order the switch for me. Thank you Larry for the Advance Auto discount coupons but I ended up getting it from an online dealer website.

Thank you Ben for finding the OEM part number. The part from oemparts123 was 27 shipped, and from rockauto was 25 shipped. I opted for the oemparts123 as I have ordered from them in the past. How were you able to determine what the oem part number is?

I wish I could find work in center PA. I could have three times the house there than in eastern MA.

    Great thread and pictures here.

I accidentally kicked the switch and the leverage/torque of the kick on the switch ended up breaking the brown clip in skytower's pictures. The brown piece is a "stop lamp adjuster" P/N 84345-08010 and lists for $6.20. I am adding this info to the thread in case anybody needs to find this in a future search.
