Put your money towards a class or a trainer. That way you have a commitment rather than a dvd.

^^ This. Its way to easy to lose motivation with a DVD

If you have the motivation and will, P90X WILL work. I've been an active athlete all my life, competing in sports (Football and Track) all the way through college.

I've been in various forms of condition. I've been in running shape, averaging about 10miles a day; I've been in strength shape, lifting 6 days a week and protein loading; and I've been in universal shape from doing a mixture of the above.

The 2 months I did P90X (I had to stop due to various personal family issues that arrose) were some of the most intense and effective months of my life. As a Type 1 diabetic, I pay extremely close attention to the way my body works and I know to a T how efficient my metabolism is functioning. During those months, I was in better shape than I've been in years. In fact, I did it again for a month and a half. But, my partner and I began having varying schedules that made it exceedingly difficult to keep up on. This highlights the most important factor, having someone to do it with (not necessarily in the same location, but day-for-day).

Today, I typically run and do various strength exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, dips, crunches, etc) about 5-6 days a week. I try to follow a good diet on my routine meals, but I don't hold back if the wife wants to go out to eat.

Moral of the story: P90X works as well as anything. You just have to commit. But no more than committing to going to the gym each day. The one thing you don't have is someone to be accountable to. That's why I suggest finding someone to do it with. Even if it's just on the phone or via email. Conversing with someone about your progress helps a lot to keep you honest.

You're probably talking to me eh? Yeah, I got through day 84 and then sickness hit me. I had a solid flu bug for 2 weeks and I dropped 17 pounds. The motivation was all gone. I worked labor over much of the summer and so I wasn't feeling it on a day to day basis. I am now on a hypertrophy lifting regimen that seems to be doing well. I have gained about 7 lbs in the 4 weeks that I have been doing it...

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Agreed, of course a trainer is an ongoing expense. P90x is, well I won't say a joke, but if you do any physical activity for 6 days a week, an hour to hour and half each day along with a healthy diet, you will be in great shape.

Not sure this is even the best workout if you have the time. I've taken a couple of the workout discs and paired them with my running routine for (what I feel is) a much better work out.

Awesome and congrats. That was my trouble before, my wife and I did it together, but then she got pregnant so she stopped, ergo, I stopped.
