can i powdercoat the bolts on my wheels

I have ProComp 7005 wheels and the bolts are polished. I want to get them powdercoated black but does anyone know if the powdercoat will affect the thread, therefore not allowing me to screw them back in???

 

just buy black lug nuts

 

It might make the threads tight and the nuts will probably scrape off the paint so paying for powder coat to me is a waste. Once the lug nuts are on, you're better off using a rubber cap over the bolt ends or painting them using rustoleum. You'll have to fight a little to get the nuts off and repaint if you take the rims off though.

 

i have black lug nuts already....im talking about the million little bolts around the edge. Do they sell those in black???

We know... most of the responses were directed towards painting the bolts.

If you mean the bolts at the perimeter of the wheel, just powdercoat the heads and don't mess with the threads.

 

I would get black zinc. The cleaning process will strip any coating already on them and it will hold up over time.

 

do those even come out? I have the same wheels and wanted to paint them as well at first, but the look has kind of grown on me

 

yeah i took one out yesterday. they come out really easy but i dont ever plan on using beadlocks so theyre pointless to me.

 

Those wheels are simulated beadlocks, not the real thing.
I wouldnt waste the money on coating just the bolts, unless you were planning on doing the entire wheel. Just paint them

 

matching paint and a small brush.

or...take them out and stick them through holes in cardboard...spray the bolt heads...replace and repeat.
