^the sunlight in this one is weird as well since parts of the truck are in direct light, and the parts in the shade are reflecting the blue sky....but you get the idea

also for reference, the rear windows (on a 09+ at least) meter at 27% stock, the fronts of all years meter at 77%.

Front total VLT = .77*aftermarket tint
Rear total VLT = .27*aftermarket tint

Common VLT levels that will match:

    20% Front (.77*.2 = .15)
    50% Rear (.27*.5 = .14)

    35% Front (.77*.35 = .27)
    0% Rear (.27)

    15% Front (.77*.15 = .12)
    40% Rear (.27*.4 = .11)

    5% Front (.77*.05 = .04)
    15% Rear (.27*.15 = .04

Does anyone know if the above factory tint specifications are accurate for a 2011 tacoma as well?

If so, if I go 20% tint in the front it will actually meter at 15%?

And to get a close match for the rear I would want to go 50%?

    Thanks,

    AC

Anyone got any pictures of 15% vs. 20% tint? Torn between those two. If the above table is correct it looks like if I go 20% in the front it will meter at about 15 anyway. But just curious what some trucks look like with 15% and 20% up front.

Also, has anyone tried matching front and rear (with factory tint) with success?

    Thanks

I have 5 on my front as well as 5 laid over the factory tint on my rear. This is 5 vs 20 on the front windshield

this is what I would do. You really do not want the rear darker. Not sure if Al. has an inspection now or not but there was a time when they didn't. I saw vehicles with windshields tinted

The first image is with all the windows tinted how they are currently tinted, as well as the second giving a better view of the side. The inside image being the third image is to compare the 5% on the front side and the 5% overlaying the stock tempered glass. The rear windshield had not yet been tinted. I have installed LED reverse lights as well as a backup camera to see at night. If i were to go back i would not tint the rear windows at all and tint the front windows with 20% to match the stock tint. But for anyone wanting to go darker this is a comparison.

I went with 18% all the way around
    Windshield is at 70%

I found placing the 18% over the factory tint on the rear passenger and back windows created a limo (5%) type of look. I would do it the same way if I was to start over. I'm very happy with it.

I retint mine myself once a year to pass inspection. I tried severalI, don't was your time with 20%+. I do either 5% or 2.5% on all windows even over the factory tint. Once you go 5% even if other windows have double tint, they will look like the match, no worries. For a black out newby, I go with 5% :)
