Im the second owner of this truck, and I just got it, so im not quite sure what just happened, but I was walking down the street to show my brother-in-law my Taco and the tail lights flickered on, the turn signals flashed and then we heard it start. It ran for about 3-4 seconds then shut off. We both looked at each other in utter confusion. He said, "did you just do that?". I said "no!", is someone in my truck? There was no key in the ignition. Sure as hell, it fired up on its own with no key in the ignition.

Any Ideas guys? I was thinking maybe the orignial owner installed a remote start, but I didnt recieve any keyfob from the dealer, and they never mentioned to me that it came with remote start. Anything I need to look for? Never seen a remote start before, so not sure what to look for. And if it doesnt have a remote start, what the hell could cause a truck to start on its own?

    Thanks for any advice.

Thats going to be one for the dealer to hash out. It would have to get power from somewhere. Until you are able to get to the dealer or figure this out you may want to consider disconnecting the battery, no telling what else it may be able to do. Hell I wouldn't want to wake up and find my truck has been running all night, or worse yet walk out to a fire.

Weird. I had factory remote start on the Impala SS I had before the Taco. The turn signals would flash before it started when you hit the start button on the fob. Although if someone had it installed you would think you would have gotten the aftermarket fobs for it. And I don't know that someone else trying to start theres could interfere with it. No idea how that stuff works.

This happened to my friend and turned out it was a remote start. the guy before had lost all the key fobs so didnt bother telling him, then one morning he came out to find his truck had been running for god knows how long, were thinking something on the same frequency started it

Why not? The gas pedal seems to have a mind of it's own, why not the starter? I can see the lawyers lining up now for another taste.

I have remote start on all my vehicles and I guess someones garage remote or other transmitter could possible send the signal to the starter...stranger things have happened. Look for a small antenna, usually on the drivers side mounted inside to cab to the windshield up in the top corner or somewhere on the dash.

Yep. Found a little antenna with a wire running into the roof liner. Must be the remote start. Ill contact the dealer and see if they have the FOB. Im guessing it was some sort of interference.

My little girl was playing in there and I wonder if she may have done something to get it to fire? She wasn't in there when it started though, so Im still a little baffled.

    Some funny reply's!

Look under the dash and see if there are any wires or "units" that look aftermarket. There may even be a starter kill button, alarm kill button or something like that underneath the steering wheel.
