Normal Amounts of Rust?

I really dont know if this is normal for it's age. Houston hardly EVER gets snow, let alone enough to stick on the roads or for ice to form. So its pretty uncommon for them to salt the roads.

Its an 08 (door sticker says built in 07 though) with about 44,000 Miles.

 

Oh Jesus. I dont even want to check my truck now.

 

Been driving on the beach much?

 

Nope for the most bit, all city and highway driving.

 

Mine does not have that. I live ten miles from the beach and go there often, but I have not driven the truck on the sand yet.

 

My '01 isn't even that bad.

 

Compared to mine, that looks normal. I have 31,000 mile and mine was also bought in 07.

But the previous owner (for two years) lived right next to the ocean, but never took it off pavement.

 

Are you serious ? My 09 looked worse than that after 1 winter .

 

My 07 doesn't have any rust except for the muffler and tail pipe but I live in a dry desert environment and they mainly use lava rock on the roads in the winter. I'm kinda anal about the underside of my truck and get under there a few times a year to clean and look for any signs of rust forming. So far the only spots I've touched up were around some of the welds.

 

Normal, I suspect they will be recalling these in a few years like they did with the last models.

That's nothing. It all looks like surface rust to me.

 

I've got 17K on my '09 and it looks way worse. Got to love NY winters. It honestly isn't anything that is going to cause an issue. Mostly surface rust. Clean it with a wire brush and hit it with the ol' spray bomb. It will be fine...

 

Most of the Tacomas around here are worst than that a month after taking delivery of them. Its only a little surface rust - purely cosmetic.

That's really minimal. If you're concerned about it, sand it off, blast some black sealer, or paint on it, and problem solved.

I wouldn't worry about that at all

 

my 06 was way way worse......i hit it all with a scraper and sanded it lightly and just hit it with rustoleo hammered and reformer
