Re: 2009 brake issue?

Just recently I started hearing a buzzing sound when I apply my brakes. There's a canister under the hood that moves visibly when the brakes are applied, not sure if this is the source of the noise?

I'm hoping someone can help me out here, I'm not sure what the part is and if anyone has experienced this issue?

Will do, was quietly hoping my truck would never see the dealer........I bought new in September of 09', have about 8,700 easy miles on it. I've done a few oil changes, including the differentials etc, rotated the tires etc. Like to do stuff myself when possible. The tutorials and member knowledge here are great, I hope to be able to contribute in the future.

Just got a call from the dealer, they said the noise is from the electric motor assisting the brake booster and that it's normal. Not sure why it all of a sudden got so loud. Not sure I agree, but they are the experts.

Good luck with the dealer trying other trucks, I had mine try two Tacomas similar to mine and none made the noise mine did but they still called it normal.

I just contacted Toyota's main customer support line and they provided me with a reference number and let me know that if my A/C compressor (which was causing the noise) failed after warranty that they would fix it.

We will see what happens. I hope you get this matter resolved in your favor.

 

I'll try another dealer, seems to me that if they think it is all good, that complaining won't help. I don't want to make an issue of it, if it is "normal".

I've got 2 years left on my warranty, and can't help wondering if I should find a good local shop and pay for any work I might need in the future. May end up costing less in the long run.

I'm not particularly good with confrontations (really bad). If the service adviser says it is all good, and I say I don't think so well then things could/would go downhill fast......

Basically says there is a check valve that needs replaced.

 

Keep us posted, I have an '09 also, so if I experience the same thing I will know what to do.

 

i dont think its normal, mine doesnt make that noise but mine is an 05, but i am sure all the brake components are the same. You should definetly get to the bottom of what ever it is and get it fixed. You dont want your rakes to fail at any time.

Picking it up this afternoon, will discuss it more with the service department. I have a distant friend who worked as a professional mechanic at Toyota for twenty years, I'll be picking him up a case of his favorite brew for his opinion. He still has some pull at my dealership.

No doubt there is something wrong, to bad the dealer thinks I have nothing better to do with my time than bother them with some weird noise........

So Monday evening I picked up my truck from the dealer. The service writer said the sound was normal, and it was weird because he didn't respond to any of my questions, just looked blankly at me about my concerns....

So I said fuck it, I'm good for a fight but will pick a spot another time.

Today I left work at lunch to drive around, get some gas. As I drove around, I began to realize that this noise was really not normal, and that the dealer was full of shit (surprise).

Decided to check my oil while I was filling up, and took a real close look at the master cylinder/brake booster. Something looked out of place, and I ended up pulling out a walnut which was jammed between the hydraulic motor and the inside fender well. It was stuck good, but I got it out.......It was all I could do not to get in my truck and try it out. Had to pay for the gas first. And yeah this totally fixed the issue.......Unreal, I'm so relieved, and can't stop chuckling........A fucking walnut, r u kidding me? Squirrel I'm guessing.

The dealer receipt said the noise was normal, and had a sticker which said Toyota would contact me to see how satisfied I was with the service they did. They cut the pedal (fine by me), re-flashed the trans for the brake over ride and spent ten minutes explaining that terrible noise I was hearing was normal...........

Anyway, thanks, it is all good I whish I took a picture, but didn't think to and phone camera doesn't work. I may take it back to the dealer and re install walnut, then tell them to make sure the walnuts don't fall out of any of the other Taco's.......

I just got back from meeting with my friend who had been a toyota mechanic for 20 years. He told me the same thing, I'll be talking with the service manager tomorrow. And looking for another dealer as well.
