Painting the stock (black) front skid plate

I'm planning to paint the front factory (stock - black) skid plate sometime this week, but while the plaint is drying, I should be fine driving the taco around without it on right? I don't plan to put on a ton of mileage in the short time it's drying, but I may leave it off for a day or so, in which time I'll be commuting to work. Here's a few shots so you know which plate I'm talking about:





Am I good to leave it like this for a short 30 mile run or so?


While I was under there, I took a shot of what I THINK is the oil drain plug, and figured I'd ask before I change my oil next weekend. Is this right? I'm assuming so since it's right under the engine, but with all the "OMG I drained my trans oil!!!" posts, I figured I'd ask.

Oh... and if you're wondering WHY I'm painting this (will probably paint it black again - or possibly silver to match the truck), its just that I'm always under there cleaning it, and I HATE how it has that matte feel, like there's barely any paint on it - just like the rest of the frame, which I guess I'll slowly tackle as rust specs show up.
