Technically about 2 years or so :D

About two years ago I bough at XTi and really wanted to get a 40D but at the time couldn't afford it. I ended up selling the XTi to fund some of my other hobbies. Missed having the DSLR for about two years until I finally had the cash to buy my 50D

I would say that your have probably done enough shopping around. If you found a camera and you are happy with it then you are set.

    What exactly is your budget?

I had the idea that I wanted one for a lil over a year, but spent a few months doing hardcore research and asking questions.

Haha, yeah like my little quote lol. If money was unlimited I wouldn't be researching I'd just buy whatever these guys said was the best, and if there was more than one that was the best hell I'd buy em all!! :D\

But...thats not the case and I gotta stay at $600 :(

It is the max aperture opening. A large aperture lens like a 1.8, 1.4 etc (smaller the number, larger the aperture) will give you that shallow depth of focus, where anything in front of and behind the subject is out of focus. The larger the aperture the less in front of and behind the subject will be in focus. So this lens has a max aperture of f/1.8 and a minimum of f/22 giving you much versatility.

Aslo a larger aperture lets in more light allowing you to use a faster shutter speed or lower ISO in low light

the f/number is the proportion of lens focal length to max aperture size.

    50mm focal length/27.7mm max aperture = f/1.8

ISO is your film speed, or in this case the sensitivity of the digital sensor.

The higher the ISO number the faster the sensor (or film) reacts to light. So in low light situations if you need to use a faster shutter speed or a smaller aperture you will need to bump up the ISO to get the correct exposure.

However, the more you bump up the ISO the more noise your photo will have. Noise is the grainy dots in the picture, most noticeable in the dark areas of the shot.

    Shutter speed
    Aperture
and ISO are the three key terms you are going to want to study being a beginner.

By the way this 50mm is a great, affordable beginner lens;)

Haha thanks. Ill have to play with all that. I assume when you change all that you would be in manual mode??

And I bet that 50mm would be great!
