    BEAUTIFUL truck man!
love the rear shock covers! ( would paint black to match bed) I always hated the holes going through the bed but like how you covered them and the shocks are way up front to give you your bed still.

It was not inexpensive, but I certainly received my money's worth in terms of workmanship, strength and performance. It's appears somewhat understated compared with the lifted Tacomas, but I wanted to keep the center of gravity low (safer at speed), and I was not really focused so much on appearance anyway. There is considerable work under the skin and hidden from view. Most important of all, expectations were exceeded, everything performs as designed, and I expect it to be quite reliable. Tim does good work at DMZ.

    Thanks for all the comments,

    Chris

I don't know much about LT, but I have never seen that 2nd shock behind the coilover. What is the purpose of that? Looks like the best setup I've seen!

Its a bypass shock. Its used to be able to adjust the front more. It has tubes that you can make the shock softer and harder so that you can get the ride the way you need it for what you are doing. Also you can make it so on hard hits you will not bottom out and it will be a nice plush landing. Another thing is because you have two shocks it will take longer for them to heat up and fade (In his case it won't happen)

    Guys:

Proper suspension set-up is the key. Having cut my teeth on MX bikes long ago, I learned then that spring rates, travel, shock valving, and compression/rebound adjustments are critical to balancing the front and rear suspensions to work effectively together. A properly set-up inferior appearing suspension system, (say, less travel), will easily surpass a poorly adjusted superior suspension, no matter how impressive it looks. The manufacturers are, more or less, effective with initial shock set-up and spring rates, but they can only ballpark it to your model vehicle.

I'm willing to bet that most guys running new, aftermarket suspensions could substantially improve the performance of their existing suspension systems with some informed adjustments. The two most common and egregious problems are one: a harder sprung and stiffer compression suspension system is better. Not only is that set-up hard on your drivetrain, but it can bite you, or even kill you under the right conditions. The second: the suspension systems for the front and rear of the vehicle are mismatched. For example, the Tacoma's weakness is the rear suspension. Improving the front alone will likely frustrate you, if not get you into trouble. The problems with the set-up process is that can be complicated and laborious, requires experience/good advice, and is typically not much fun - it is to some extent a trial and error process. That is probably why most folks don't bother with it.

I chose to go with King Bypass shocks, despite the higher cost, because of the adjustability and customer tuning/set-up support that King provides. Notwithstanding and this is just my personal opinion, I think King is more focused on the racing end of the business and therefore the shock technology, engineering/construction, and pre-installation spring rates/valving/set-up is superior.

    Regards,

    Chris

Wow man. I didn't even know there were setups out there that actually involved having shocks go up through the bed. Thats the most awesome thing I think I've ever seen done to a Tacoma.
