Oil Filter Question

I received a free Fram Xtra Guard oil filter when I purchased oil. I have been hesitant to use it as I have always used Toy filters.
Anyone know of any problems using this filter?

Fram is made from Honeywell, which sucks
K&N (and mobil 1 i think) is made from Champion, which sucks and your paying 10$ more for a nut welded on the bottom of the filter

From what ive researched for years and years pureone is good stuff.

But now a days I guess you cant go wrong with any of them... just get a filter with the correct bypass valve pressure

 

I use the TRD filter. Expensive, yes, but they use synthetic media and are slightly larger than the stock ones. Better media and larger size (larger surface area) means better flow while maintaining the necessary filter efficiency.

I figure it's worth a few extra bucks every 6 months for a little additional peace of mind. The 1" nut on the top also makes installation and removal easy.

I too used Fram until I found out how cheaply made they were. i used Purolator Pureone now and have never had an issue. Originally I did not just go to Pureone. I had a JK at the time and it had a click clack on start up. I tried Mobil filters, Fram Filters, K&N filters, Napa (both Wix and one that did not say it was made by Wix) and all of these let the clicking continue (only on start up this occured) until I switched to the Purolator Pureone. that filter never had a click start again and I ran them until I got rid of that Jeep. I kept with the Pureone's as they make a great filter it has more pleats which is where the surface area is increased, and it has a silicone anti-drainback valve (which is what I think helped the clicking Jeep). Most of the companies out now don't make their own filters, they are made by the larger filter companies and re-badged. JOE>

 

i dont use FRAM, but i have. for years, i have used them. never a failure that i know of.

but now that i'm older and wiser..i buy OEM.

 

damn i gotta STP filter in the truck right now and i kinda knew going into it that i didnt like it but i couldnt find anything else. the Amsoils look nice too

where do yall get these purolators at? autozone? oriellys?

1992 Chevy Lumina, 175K miles
1993 Nissan Hardbody, 175K miles
1995 Toyota Camry, 260K miles

All have had oil & filter changed @ 5K mile intervals. Used Fram oil filters & Castrol (dino) motor oil in them. An idiot, not me, ran a stop sign and killed the Lumina. It was still going strong at the time. '93 Nissan & '95 Camry still running strong. Makes me wonder if it has more to do with the oil & filter change interval than the products..? Oh BTW, I'm using Mobil1 synthetic oil & filters with my Taco because the person I bought it from was using it so I kept status quo.

 

I never use Fram's. I use either wix, pure one, or oem.
