XM25 Rifle $35,000.00 U.S. Army Issue

Yes, in our time of economic downturn our U.S. Army has developed it's newest and baddest rifle ever seen.. sure it's a whopping $35k each but hey it shoots exploding grenade rounds with 1m accuracy at 800m ranges! Now there's a reason to enlist, maybe..

Yea, great, but who the fuck wants to carry that damn thing around. It looks super cool, but when it comes down to carrying the f'in thing for hours on end, it can really suck. I will stick with my m4 with m203.

 

An old fashioned m79 bloop tube would actually be better than that army crap.We went through 40mm at the rapid rate and those would have been nice. IMO the squad leader should carry it. It would keep his eyes out of a scope so he can focus on fighting with his teams instead of as an individual, while giving him maximum amount of firepower.

yall do know that it has a laser range finder built in and makes the round explode when uw ant it to instead of when it hits something? for 35k i'd say thats not too bad. altho i wouldnt want to carry it either. but im sure its way more accurate on the first shot than a m203

 

I carried a laser range finder with me also. Got it at bass pro for a few hundred bucks. But when it came to 40mm a laser sight is a little over kill, its more of an adjust fire weapon.

 

Is 12 lbs really that heavy? I'm just a desk jockey but I didn't think that was an outrageous number. Also, just a guess here, I'm guessing this isn't going to be standard issue to every set of boots on the ground. There more than likely will be an XM25 gumnan like the article says. So $35K to turn a gunfight into an ass whooping doesn't sound so bad.

 

It doesnt sound heavy, and at first it isnt. But after some time carrying it with a full load, in country, it would get HEAVY. HEDP is not light, and when it's your primary weapon you'll be carrying alot of it. Our TL's carried around 20 40mm in addition to their 556. So a dedicated grenadier would have quite the load.

 

Looks like a bad-ass gun.

The army plans to spend 437 million & change within the next year to snag 12,500 of them, and a quick look at the leadership team on the company's website reveals that it's a board of folks getting their pockets lined by their friends in the senate.

I guess what I meant was I thought the weight sounded comparible. My only experience with rifles in theater is some BS training in AL with fake M-4s. But I figured 12 lbs was at least close to the weight of whatever they use in the field these days. Is it much of a difference?

 

i guess we know why there is a pay freeze coming.

 

We don't even use the m203 anymore we switched to the H&K m320 a while back it can be separated from the rifle with its own stock. Its kind of the best of both worlds.

Well, again, everything's relative. I don't know of any troops going to war with gallons of water. I'm curious as to the weight of an M-4 compared to this new weapon. Like I said, I sit behind a desk and have very little perspective on how heavy weapons are.

If we knew all the things that took a front seat to education we'd probably puke.

 

It auto ranges the target and sets the rounds to detonate above the target within 1 meter. The idea is that when the enemy takes cover in a ditch or behind a wall, you fire above the wall and the rounds air burst right above his head.

I would imagine the technology required to have a grenade that detonates that precisely and can be fired that accurately was not easy to develop.

It seems too complicated for practical field use to me, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if it proves its worth or not.
