I don't know, that theory about Amsoil sounds about as ridiculous as not changing the transmission fluid for the life of the truck... Oil breaks down, thats why we change it every 3-5,000 miles. Compared to the cost of engine repair, the cost of oil and a filter is cheap insurance so why push it?

I am not saying the oil isn't doing it's job anymore. It very well could be working fine. I don't know and I will never find out because I will never wait that long before I changed it.

IMO there is no debate on the perception of neglect to a once a year old change. Start a poll on this website and ask if someone would buy a used taco with a once a year oil change from a complete stranger. I'll eat crow and apologize if I'm wrong.

Probably a CYA statement on the side of the bottle. I don't doubt it's good stuff, I wouldn't put 35,000 miles on a single oil change though. 7,500 I could see depending on the type of driving conditions. I've never heard of a bypass filtration system, whats the benefit of that??

I would never PLAN to do mantainence during a trip. Cause you'll either use a Juffy lube type place and they'll screw it up or you'll have a tool or part break and leave you stranded somewhere during the trip.

Do it early if you really want...I'd probably dump some seafoam into the crankcase and run the trip....Drain it all when I got back.

Personally, I would change the oil before the trip for peace of mind. That being said, I run 0W-30 amsoil synthetic and change every 5000k miles. Just my preference.

I personally would do it early, but 2400 miles of highway driving with a warmed up engine probably isn't going to tax the oil much. I changed mine right before a 4,000 miles trip, and the oil hadn't even changed color when I got back.

Going to an unknown shop while on the road sounds iffy to me. If you do in enroute, probably best to do it yourself in the walmart parking lot.
