well, this morning, we took our basset hound to the vet to get one large Puss filled knot and a cancerous open sore removed from her neck. it really bothered me, because i have had this dog since she was a puppy and she is close to 14 years old now. I really hope she will be okay. I dont want to lose her from the shock of the operation. sorry if this seems stupid, but i just thought i would vent a little.

    She'll be ok!
Molly, my Dog, was diagnosed with a strange disease that tries to fight her skin. Her body thinks her skin is a "virus" and tries to kill it, this causes her skin to fall off, and leave everything exposed, not to mention bleeding. She is alergic to dam near EVERYTHING. We learned this when she was a pup, and the Vet said she wouldnt last more than 2 years, and she would be suffering. We opted to take her to god only knows how many vets, but we found one that has been able to treat her. Its not cheap, BUT:
She just had her 10 year B-day a few months ago, and you can see shes not suffering:

It's amazing how close we get to our pets. My dogs are family and when they hurt, I hurt. My Golden Retreiver had a similar operation a few years ago at age 8 and pulled through like a champ. I'm sure your Basset will too. Good luck.

Hey beastly-we are with ya buddy! Chris' beautiful lil Molly is proof that good things are possible-and your LOVE for your doggy is what went with her into that operating room and is the POWER that will get her through! She is lucky to have a guy like you on her side-a lot of animals don't! She'll be OK!!:)

Sure hope she's okay. I think for a lot of us, our pets are our family. Personally, I like most dogs more than I like a lot of people. They're always there for you, don't care what you look like, how much money you make (as long as they get fed!), or any of those other superficial things humans get hung up on. And, when you have a bad day, they can cheer you up just by being so happy to see you when you come home.

I hope everything works out. We also have a Bassett (Moose) who will turn 13 on the 15th of Dec. I don't know what I would do without him, he's part of the family.

I know what ya mean. My boxer, Allie got up one morning and couldn't use her left rear leg. We took her to the vet and he said that her hip was bad but that wasn't the problem. He suggested a Neurosurgeon. The Neurosurgeon was $300 just to be seen. He said that she needed an MRI done on her spine and that would be about $3000 just to start. Well, we decided to ride it out. She has some use of her leg now but she can't run like she used to. It was so much fun to watch her cut circles around the shed. But she's still here and she seems happy. I'm so glad I didn't put her down. Because that was gonna be our only option. Anyway, I hope you pet does well.

I had a bassett for 14 years. She was the best dog my family has ever had. When I get another dog it will for sure be another bassett hound.
Hope yours makes a speedy recovery.

Allright guys, heres the lowdown of what all happened. Sorry for the late response, but i was out of town this weekend. Allright, so first off, it turns out that she had a Large puss filled knot removed as well as a Cancer infected open sore. the other sore on her face opened up and it turns out that from the top of her neck, all the way down her jaw line, she had cancer. So the Vet removed everything. She said that they hoped that they got everything, and im confident they did. but she said to keep her on antibiotics for 6 weeks to keep the stitches from becoming infected. She has to wear a special harness now. one that doesnt put strain on her neck as bad, and we got her a new bed, so she can be as comfortable as possible. Well, im glad shes back at home, and thanks for All yalls supprt. Missy Jane (our basset) thanks you as well as me.
