2010 Hood Insulation?

Is there no available factory underhood blanket? Most of the trucks that I've had in the past had an underhood blanket/mat. I really would like to find a hood insulator to cut down on engine noise and heat that is transfered to the hood paint from the engine...
This would be for a 2010 tacoma with the 4.0 V-6.

Maybe that is what the engine cover is for. I don't know. I have never really thought about it.

You think the noise is coming through the hood then through the windshield to get into the cab? I think you'll need a better insulated firewall for noise.

 

The engine cap is supposed to do most of that "sound deadening and heat control" for the engine bay. The engine cap has an insulation layer on the bottom of it. You could add one to the hood, but I'm not sure how much more you will gain... could be an interesting mod though- more comfort than performance.

 

No factory hood insulation that I'm aware of. Have you checked Summit or someplace like that for a universal kit? I agree with you though that some insulation can help the noise. Seen it work quite well in other trucks, just hasn't been that much of an issue to me (yet) to pursue it.

 

If you think that lining the hood with something will help why not do a spray on sound deadener?

 

Man I want the same thing! That is what makes me made about Toyota, all of their trucks miss this! On my 96 Tacoma, I went to a junk yard and got one off of an old GMC and trimmed it to shape! I plan to do this again soon! Otherwise the paint will look like crap in 10 years!

my last 3 toyotas have have this under hood insulation. First time i went wheelin in all three, it got soaked and fell down and made the hood weigh like 43000000 lbs. They all came out after the first mud hole.

just a thought if you plan on doing any off roading

You seem to have the knowledge with audio sound supression, have you ever istalled sound deadner on a Tacoma hood?

I was searching the forum for the same question as the OP and came across this thread.

Not all of us off road so I do not think water weight will be an issue. I want something nice and then do a Tacoma graphic on the material. It should come out pretty nice.

If you want to knock down noise (engine, wind, exhaust), you have to be very thorough. Some insulation on the hood alone wont be enough. You'll have to do the firewall as well. In my previous truck, I did the hood, firewall, wheel wells, and cabin floor, walls/doors and roof. Overall made a big difference, but also drained my wallet! Sound deadening is not a cheap project. Expect to spend a lot of time cutting and placing everything properly too. Again, being thorough is key.
