Tacoma - why do you own yours?

I've been snooping a little while on the forum and joined the other day. I've been on other Tacoma forums before and got tired of the needless bickering and "size of crotch contests" that never seemed to end. This place seems to be much, MUCH better.

One of the never-ending topics of discussion was "posers vs real off-roaders" which I never really understood.

I primarily bought my truck to drive every single day to work, to haul off the trash, to haul firewood (when needed), pull my boat, get me to hunting spots. In 158,000 miles, my Tacoma has been flawless. No problems, period. An amazing vehicle.

I've been thoroughly impressed with the long-term quality of the Tacoma. So much so, that I can't even see myself buying any other vehicle because of the let down that I know that I will experience.

So my question is: why do you own yours.

 

I've always liked Tacomas from day one and after my first two vehicles were cars, I thought it was time for a new 2nd gen Tacoma!! This is the first vehicle I have purchased on my own and I've never regretted it since!! I use her pretty much just on the weekends since I have another daily driver.

 

Could not take the 3.00 dollars per gallon on the Ram. 75.00 fill ups.

 

I bought mine to drive every day, plus have the capability to tow and 4x4 when I need it. I don't offroad the truck just for the sake of it (my only offroad use is for camping and biking/hiking trails). For that reason, I'm not lifted nor do I have any crazy mods. Just a normal, daily driven truck.

 

Same reasons really. Not so much a daily driver, we have the family truckster for that ('06 legacy wagon), but an all around great utility vehicle that is bomber. Does great on road, off road, up the mountain passes in the most hellacious conditions, etc...

Oh, btw - my crotch is huge.

 

I bought it because my Ranger needed tires.

I kept it because it's paid for and held up well.

 

Dependable and good platform for modding

 

i bought mine because i always loved the look of tacomas and needed a truck to haul my quad around. then soon fell in love with the reliability and dependability of it. plus gettin out to huntin spots was to hard on my old civic.

 

Because I wanted a reliable, capable, good looking truck thats gonna last

 

1. Because cars are mostly useless if you are a homeowner or ever go anywhere to do anything with equipment and can't afford several vehicles.

2. My 93 pickup gave me 200k miles of turn-the-key-and-go reliability for 14 years--before a tree fell on it (but I could have driven it away easily).

3. It is easy to work on (er, I mean maintain. I did not mean to imply that it breaks down).

4. I owned two water-cooled Volkswagens before my first Toyota pickup.(refer to #2 and #3).

 

i live in manitoba so winter sucks in a 98 civic and all we have for viehicals are toyota. so a 4x4 tacoma was an obvios choice.
they run forever. thats why i didnt hesitate to buy this one with 327,000km

 

because i have wanted a tacoma since before they were called tacomas

 

got mine for minor off roading, daily driver, and like the others just for hauling yard work off or stuff that just can not fit into an suv or car.

And also i love the way they look! i never liked trucks, and always said i'd never drive one, until i saw the 2nd gen's. now im a truck guy and couldn't be happier about it haha

 

Because,
1. when i was younger, I loved it when i saw it back to the future all those years ago..
2. when i was older, i mainly needed a truck to do all those crazy craigslist buying that i do
3. for camping trips (maybe snow, maybe mud, maybe sand, maybe water).
4. i used to live in a place where water reaches higher than a car when it rains... so its a sound investment in that regard.
5. they are great deals! i have two right now and both my tacos are from craigslist... yey! but will have to sell one soon. booo...
6. after driving my first one around. for awhile. i'm just madly in love with it, my wife is actually jealous...
7. you should see my silly grin when i am driving it...

 

Honestly? My wife got it for me because she hates driving with me in my GMC...something about her neck?

 

I bought mine because I've liked Toyota trucks since I saw this

I wanted a truck, want to buy a house soon and I know a truck is always good to have for random trips to home depot and such. When i saw my truck i fell in love and decided to jump on it.

Got it for work.
Have clients that we need to get to pretty much regardless of weather.
(ok well its a good as an excuse as any).
Mobility despite the elements.
Dependably.(i got a brandy new frame and a heap of other new stuff with the buy of the truck..yay recall/resell)



Fun..I like the way they drive.
Cause my Nissan Sentra despite the amazing gas mileage..aver 43mpg.
And it has done well thru 5 New England weather..really never got stuck or scary.

But just was to damn small for 6'5 220 lbs and more then an hour in the fighterplane nissan..sucked.And suddenly driving which I loved..I didnt..

And other then my brother. Family is no closer then 4.5 hours away south of here. in Rhode Island and further NYC.(most of em) and then the Dad is in SC.
Would like to be able to drive down to see them all and be able to walk when I get out the car.(Now truck)


So yep..all the above reasons..and possibility of maybe modding for off roading...but right now pretty much stock is alright for me.

 

I got mine for all the reasons mentioned already, PLUS...

I want to get all the way there and all the way back! No other vehicle does it better.
