My check engine light came on in my 2001 tacoma 3.4 so I took it down to autozone and it threw a code saying it was an rf sensor or somethin like that. its the sensor before the o2 its where the exhaust comes down outta the manifold. do you guys know the proper name for it? do you guys know where i can get a cheap one??? they are $170 at my local parts store...

go to rockauto.com......their prices are best around. sounds like you need the bank 1 sensor 1 which is the upstream sensor.

on the first gens...the o2 sensor bolts on...doesnt screw in.i would stay away from the universal ones tho...and stick with denso oem sensors for sure. our trucks dont like aftermarket sensors too much.

There are two sensors on the exhaust. One is the O2 sensor and the other is the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor.

    I wouldn't buy a knockoff/universal junker.

    Look here: www.partznet.com

What he said. The one in front of the cat is relatively easy to get to, the one behind the cat has it's plug inside the cab under the carpet on the passengers side. I'd stick with the ones that have the plugs pre-installed, the universal ones require you to cut and splice the wires to the connectors.

You want to get this one, if you have a 4 wire, air fuel ratio monitor. http://www.amazon.com/Denso-234-9001-Oxygen-Sensor-Ratio/dp/B000C5WD2Q

Denso is the OEM supplier for these and installation was plug n play. Amazon's price was the cheapest I could find. The only PITA part is somehow getting the connector plug undone... its a funny angle

DOUBLE check that you have a 4 wire, Air Fuel Ratio sensor in the front. I have a 2003 3.4 Automatic California model. If you don't, the part number/link I gave is NOT the one you need.

When I replaced my air:fuel ration sensor, I removed the shifting boot from inside the cab to get to it. It was still a huge pain, but made it easier.

Remember, at the factory all of this assembled before they put the body on the truck.

I also tied a string to my old one as I pulled it out so that I could follow the same route with my new one with the string.
