who said anything about enhancing performance?... was just seeing if iridium plugs are worth the price

best performance is with the OEM plugs.

iridium are not solely for boosted applications, they are just ideal for them due to their superior durability.

i remember when HKS superfires first came out, they were $25 A PLUG! now you can find 6 plugs for about $60 from NGK and denso. you have to weigh out if you'd rather change the plugs once for 60 bucks and 2 hours of your time, and be done with it forever, or if you'd rather change the plugs every 30k for 18 bucks and 2 hours of your time each time. most of you probably view iridium as overkill and i can understand that.

something tells me that you could ideally re-gap the OE plugs at 30k intervals (unless the center electrode is really worn), but due to emissions toyota has it part of their intervals and emissions warranty that they need to be changed that often. that is just a guess, but considering what i've seen with service intervals using copper plugs in the past, with higher compression and higher abuse applications, that seems logical.

again... who said i wanted to buy them? if you re-read my post, i asked if anyone had experience with them. no where did i say i wanted to but them.

Iridium plugs also have a colder heat range. Sounds good......Right? Welp.....That colder range can help to stop the engine from getting a complete fuel burn. THe plugs have to operate within a specified heat range to give ideal and complete combustion. Going to a "colder" plug, in many normilly asperated aplications, gives less performance, and fewer mpg. Going to a "hotter" plug, increases the chance of pre detonation.

    Another thing people forget:
Toyota engineers dont have some dude with a pocket protector sitting behind a desk saying "hell mang....All we needz iz a spark"....They pay some good yen to folks to figure out how to get the best spark into the CC to give the most complete burn of the fuel. The better burn, = more power, mpg.

you can get iridium in the same heat ranges as any other plug.

if your truck and set up calls for a 6 in japanese plugs, get a 6.

naturally, but iridium plugs cost a ton more when you have 6 per engine than cheapo copper plugs.

in these days of lowering production costs and cutting corners, such as the bean counters making them meter paint down to the DROP, i'm not surprised they equipped these trucks with copper plugs. they work fine, but need to be changed sooner than more expensive technology plugs, which means they save money and you will probably spend more money with Toyota getting them changed/replacing them.

if you want to change the plugs as per the factory intervals, get the copper NGK v-power or comparable denso units.

it you want to have an indefinite change interval BUT pay 3x as much per plug, get the iridium.

it's up to you. truthfully i'm going to run these plugs to the factory interval and install iridiums. i've used them in all of my cars since HKS superfires were released a long while ago so i have no reason to do differently here.

just make sure the heat range is the same. though i am not that familiar with denso, it appears the stock plug is K20HR-U11 so the long life iridium counterpart would be SK20HR11. i am familiar with NGK and their heat range numbering. they too use the same heat ranges between their types, so if your truck takes a LFR6C-11 in copper, it would take a ILFR6T11.

I have a question: What about the wires. When do they get changed, no ones talked about them.

coil on plug. there are no wires to speak of since there isn't a classic distributor and coil setup sending power to the plugs through wires.

If you can change a flat tire, you can do the plugs. Easy.

It's a little more involved now. Since you have to remove panels/parts to get access.

Not like the old days of having my Accord and it's right on top of the engine. :(
