Did some searching and everyone seems to call this type of wheel the stock TRD wheels for the tacomas (which are on my truck). I am pretty dag-gum sure my truck is not a TRD edition, seeing as how it used to have a SR5 badge on the tailgate. The truck is not equipped with a JBL sound system. I know there are other differences between the two, such as suspension parts and other interior options. Why would there be TRD wheels on an SR5? Or is that a common occurrence? Don't get me wrong, I love the wheels...just been curious since i've owned the truck..anybody have any ideas?

dealers often put the trd wheels on sr5 model trucks. I ordered an sr5 truck with trd wheels and when i picked it up it had the steeles. in the end I got a $1800 rebate which is way more than the stealership paid.

I found out that many dealers put the new trd wheel and tire package on when they get the trucks to just up the cost! i say if its not in the complete TRD package it is not worth the $. you can get better rims and tires for $1800. IMO

i think the inconsistency in the packages proves that this is something the dealers are doing to make an extra buck.

anyone actually work for toyota and is a memeber of TW? anyone make the tacoma or part of the marketing team?

Those wheels are part of the Off Road TRD package. The SR5 package is a separate package, dash trim, seats and other stuff. The Jbl sound system is another option. There are mix and match combination's out there.

The TRD Offroad package would have the rear differential locker and a button next to the fog lights(if equipped) on the dash.

My truck is a TRD Offroad, SR5, Prerunner with the non-JBL sound system 6 disc cd changer that is silver. I have the same wheels on my truck.

    Hope this helps.

    Stock for now
Yes in your model year (same as mine), there was an option code for those wheels & the 245s.
    Also for JBL upgrade stereo.
if the harsh ride TSB was done, you may have the yellow/blue blisteins.
That is what toyota did for awhile, swapping out the black factory shocks & the 3 leaf pack. The coils did not got swapped & there is a difference from what I have read here in the non trd models.
other signs of different models are
    The seats are different.
No compass/temp module in SR5 or bed outlet.
If you got taupe interior definitely not a TRD.

Any TRD truck would have the SR5 badge on it as well since you can't get either of the TRD packages without having the SR5 package.

Most SR5 trucks I see have those wheels. I can't recall off the top of my head seeing one without them.

Just look in the dealer brochure, or spec out a SR5 online.

The 16" alloy wheels are the same on the SR5 and the TRD offroad. The TRD Sport gets 17" wheels.
