Hitting a guardrail at 60? I'm really surprised you didn't have a lot more body damage...

use your insurance....duh. thats what its for. your rates should not go up since it was not your fault, the wreck was contributed to icy roads.

    pay $250-500 deductable
or pay $1600 out of pocket............ no brainer

    Ummm.

    1- Use insurance.

2- Have a good body shop or mechanic or sandwich maker look at the real damage. You must have some hidden damage that you cant see. You were too fast to not have it.

I have a $500 deductible and when I called my insurance agent to ask what would happen to my rates, she said that I would be paying more money by going through insurance than if I pay it out of pocket. Something about over the next 3 years, raised rates, surcharge, I dont really know..

As far as the damage.. let me see if I can explain how it happened a little better.. there was most definitely some impact, but its not like i just slammed right into it.
At the last minute I took a left hand exit going a little too fast, tried slowing down a little bit but I thought I would be alright, truck kept drifting closer and closer to the right side of the exit ramp, there was snow on the shoulder from last weeks snow storm, I caught a little bit of ice which sent me further to the right side of the exit and my passenger side tires caught the snow and instantly sucked me right into the guard rail and I slid along it for a little ways until I was able to slow down and steer away from it.

This wasnt nearly as bad as it could have been, or as bad as it probably sounds. Never the less it was still bad enough to bend my lower control arm and knuckle and scratch the front and rear bumpers, as well as the passenger side rims, and somehow rip the fairing off my thule rack.

I really dont like the sound of going through insurance if its going to cost me more in the end, so I'm leaning towards paying it myself, but instead of paying the dealer to do it, I'd like to just get some good after market lower control arms and a knuckle and do it myself.

Reccomendations are appreciated. I'm also toying with the idea of going Long Travel if it wont be too expensive (which i think it is). I live in NJ so i dont have too much use for it, although I know I will love it. Currently running billy 5100s with stock uca's. let me know if you have any ideas for me.

    Thanks guys! gotta love TacomaWorld

If the damage is REALLY only $1600 - pay for it out of pocket if you can afford it. You could really end up paying more in the long run if you claim it with insurance.

Forgot to ask...Did a police officer happen to show up and make a report? If so, he may have filed it the accident with the DMV. If he did, it will be on your driving record for the next 3 years anyway, so you might as well claim it w/ insurance.

HA.. no. the only "unintentional acceleration is me pushing the pedal farther than I meant too, but no. that wasnt the case

No, There were no witnesses. I thought about that too.. If there was an accident report then I would of just gone with insurance. Thanks for pointing that out though.

I would drive it how it is, and pick up some used LCAs. 1600 is spensive no matter what you do insurance. I bet for under 400 bucks you could be ready to rock again useing used stuff.

I think we may have some take-off lower A-Arms we can hook you up with for cheap, I'll check tomorrow. Also, we have some stock length chromoly lower A-Arms coming out soon, similar to our LT arms.
