    Went to Melbourne, Australia for Christmas and New Years. I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to sit in an airplane for 15+ hours. haha. But just a few pictures I took when I had my cousins camera. Wish I could have taken more cause there were a lot of toyotas with very tasteful mods. Almost every hilux, landcruiser, nissan truck comes standard with an arb bumper! :eek:

    Australia has some nice cars as well. Apparently GM there doesn't suck. Once in a while they bring a model stateside, like the Holden Monaro (Pontiac GTO).

    We had a Holden Monero... in 1970, was like a Chevy Camero. We lived Down Under for 6 mos. in 1970. My dad had been there 2 years previous working in Western Australia... He had a Land Rover for a while... It was so gutless, he got rid of it.

    besides being a westernized country Australia is pretty much a different world. I was in Melbourne, which is highly diverse with different demographics may people with from asia, italy, greece, and the middle east. Driving around the city there are many shops and restaurants with authentic crusines that are family owned, as well. Daily conversation is pretty interesting too. some examples include gum=chewy, restroom=toilet, trunk=boot, mcdonalds=mackahs, phone=tele, trashcan=rubish bin. But yea, I would like to visit again the next few years, and hopefully see the outback and even go wheeling out there.

    Some words I remember from 40 years ago!

    Coke came in a CAN, but oil or corn came in a TIN!
    Tyre = Tire
    Bitchman = Asphalt
    Fortnight = 2 weeks
    Bonnet = Hood (of a car)
    TV = Tele (also)
    Prawn = Shrimp
    Paw Paw = Papaya
    Gum Tree = Eucalyptus
    Torch = Flashlight

    Ginger Beer was the #1 soda and was stronger than our Ginger Ale (Root Beer was very rare). Kids sucked on salted ginger root... and many foods had ginger root added, made it too spicy for our tastes then.

    Lived in Cairns for a while. Gotta say, Australia is one fantastic country with great people. Spend lots of time diving the Great Barrier Reef. If your a beach/diving person and can't find the climate and beach "just for you" between Cairns and Brisbane, then It does not exist.
