So ive been looking at getting a new taco. I want a double cab long bed 4wd trd sport however they are slightly outta my budget of around 20k. So either i have to settle for the access cab or buy a high mileage DC. I struggled with the DC decision for sometime but ive concluded i would rather have the full rear seat. I definitely need the full size bed because motorcycles are my passion and i plan on stuffing the bed with bikes and gear!

My question is about high mileage second gen tacos. The v6 to be more specific. Are these living up to the "Toyota longevity" that the first gen trucks are known for? Ive seen a couple long beds in my price range that have around 80-90k on them. Im always weary about a car that has 90k in only 5 years, that and im concerned that within the next 30k after purchase im going to have to start dumping money into the drivetrain!

Any thoughts? Are some of you guys racking up pain free miles???

Sry if this is a repeat, i hate to pop my post cherry like this but hey its gotta happen sometime!

    Dave

Anybody had any major drivetrain issues within the first 150k? Such as the transmission etc...

Cant wait to get this truck, ive been driving a dakota with a 5.2l and while it was great for wheeling im having issues with its dependability! Im on the second motor already with only 100k, that and getting 12mpg is getting REALLY old! Also i really dont plan on doing much wheeling in the new taco, kinda got that outta my system with the last truck. However i definitely want 4wd!

You are on your second motor and have 100,000 total miles, or 100,000 miles on the second motor?

If the first is true, no worries about that with toyota.

Where are you from? Around here (Toledo) you can get a double cab 2006-2007 4x4 for around 20k with around 50k miles.

I just bought my 06 extended cab, TRD Off-Road, loaded, with 52k miles for 18900 (and that was at a dealer!). Double cabs don't go for much more..... i just had a hard time finding one because No one wants to sell their tacoma! I think the Access cab's look a little more sporty anyways!

Im in SF bay area, oakland to be specific! Ive been all over craigslist and autotrader but havent found any long beds for under 24k that have less then 80,000 miles! Maybe it would be worth it to go outta state, dont know how much they would try and rape me at the border for importing from another state?!?!

And Joe my tranny doesnt feel so great, slips when cold and has seen better days! That truck has had all four wheels off the ground at pismo beach several times and took it like a champ, however its time to grow up and move on!
