rust on interior doorsill

Hello! Searched the post but didn't find anything about this particular area -- on my 2005 (new to me, bought at 78,600 miles) there is rust on the 'doorsill' where you might step entering and exiting truck -- see attached image

it's a sizable strip -- maybe close to 14 inches long, and narrow. How would you guys go about covering it up? I figure touch up paint, but am wondering if there is a super-durable solution

 

That's just from someone getting in and out and dragging their feet. Sand it down to bare metal, prime it with etching primer, touch up paint, then cover it with some of that 3M urethane stuff they make invisible paint shields out of. I would be more worried about rust under the entrance trim panels. One of the double cabs I looked at before I bought mine had serious surface rust along all 4 door openings.

 

I would clean it up, prep, paint / re-seal it, and then cover it with the full coverage sill protectors.

I think 'Vent shade' might be one that makes the durable full coverage protectors. Might be others as well...

 

Like was previously mentioned, sand to bare metal, make sure there is no rust when you are done, prime and hit with POR15 if you are really worried then paint over the POR15. If not, just prime and paint and watch your feet.

 

Wet sand it down to get rid of the rust. Find paint match at auto store along with a primer and clear coat. Then after sand prim it then wet sand it with 1500 grit then paint it with 3 or 4 coats then when that is dry hit it with some clear coats like 3 or 4.
