water leaking into truck after car wash!

I got a car wash at a chevron and a little water dripped from the sunglass compartment by the lights on the roof of the car! has that happened before to anyone? Im just thinking water kinda just leaked into the car!

Got a hole in your roof? Maybe .. windshield and queer little antenna is the only place it could get to that area.

 

What else could it be besides a windshield that isnt sealed properly? Have any aftermarket stuff on the roof?

 

LOL. I think what he is saying maybe your sat antenna on the roof? That would be my guess also. I don't think the water could get up there from the windshield. Unless the water came strait at your truck in the wash and high pressure strait at your windshield.

 

What about those black weather stripping parts ontop of the roof for the roof rack?


I was washing mine to get the salt off (haha so be quiet) lol) and it was so fierce it ripped it off and I had to put it back on real quick lol

 

I dont have a antena, since its a 2006. I dont have any mobs on the roof. aslso, the windshild is stock so i cant figure out how water leaked in.

 

Take pic of the top of your truck.

 

Those strips aren't what keeps water from coming in from the roof. If you pull them up, there are attachment points for a factory roof rack. There shouldn't be any thru-holes on the roof from the factory. Does your truck leak in the rain or just when you go through the high pressure wash?

 

Mine didn't leak I hoped out and put it back on real fast I wasn't sure if they helped or not but better safe then sorry lol!!!

 

True, I'm sure those black strips help route the water over these tracks. I was more saying that if those black strips weren't there, your roof still wouldn't leak. They're not a weather-tight strip, just a trim piece.

Off topic but that happened to me once with my son inthe car when he was 2. He thought it was a good idea to open the window in the car wash. It turns out that it wasn't so good for him!

 

At least one of the bolts that seal the holes under the weather stripping for the roof rack may have loosened up, or the sealant has eroded. If this has happened, water will get into the truck. This has been a problem for some Taco owners, as well as FJC owners. You may have to remove the stripping and reseal the bolts.
