DO NOT GET A BODY LIFT :)

What are you intending on doing? Offroading every weekend? or just maybe 1-2 x a year...?

Personally if I was IFS again, I would get an Adjustable Coilover.. There are plenty of makes and models out there, but I would choose Icon, they make a damn good coil over. I would add Dakar's leaf pack or even wheelers offroad..etc.

Now if I had a spending limit, Bilstein 5100's with Eibach coils, or OME 881's, and an AAL for the rear. Or even a replacement pack such as wheelers off road.

Do you have a aftermarket bumper and a winch?

There is so many options is absurd... SEARCH.. it doesn't take long at all.

What exactly are you 'needing' a lift for?

The pros & cons are different depending on what you're looking to accomplish.

Are you looking strictly for height/looks?
Are you trying to fit bigger tires for looks?
Are you trying to fit bigger tires for offroad performance?

    or any other reasons....

Why do you want a suspension lift?

As for Body lifts...I'd avoid them. If you need to....1" is about the maximum body lift I'd ever recommend. Tall body lifts can be dangerous in emergency stopping situations. If you slam on the brakes too hard, you can break the body lift bolts and the entire cab can slide forward. I knew a guy who this happened to on his Jeep w/3" body lift.

more or less i am looking to put a little bigger tires than the stock.. looks. i will be on the trails but not all the time. i know the body lifts can be bad news. also someone at a specialized truck shop told me suspension was a bad way to go because you have to cut and weld a bunch of stuff and i thought this was not the case. just seeing what every one else thought about it

This guy is dumb and you shouldnt talk to him any more. Stay away from body lifts. You should just get UCA's and coilover replacements like kings or icons or something of that sort. That will be more than enough for your needs.

i that's what he told you, i don't know if i would put SPECIALIZED in the description of that shop...

on a first gen, i would go with some adjustable coilovers set at 2.5" for the front, 4.25" or 4" backspace wheels, and 265-75-16s or 285-75-16s

for the rear, Deaver J59 8 leaf packs and PM for shock options... =X

Adjustable coilover shocks replace the stock coils and shocks on the front of your truck. They have a threaded collar that is adjusted up or down the threaded shock body to set the exact amount of needed lift in front. Typically between 1"-2.5". The CO manufacturers claim adjustability of 0"-3".
