How does the direction that you park make you more or less cool? I'm pretty sure its about making it easier to get in and out than looking cool.

    LOL but true

It is all about safety. If you pull in by the time you get into the cab, start it up and belt in you do not have a clue as to what is behind you now.

In the state of Maryland pedestrians have the right of way all the time.

-Annoys my girlfriend when I do it
-It seems to draw attention to the cars around you who aren't parked within the line, as if to say, " Hey, thanks for not allowing adequate room for the rest of us JaG Off."

I'm sorta against it, cause I have to wait for the dipshit that can't back up straight take for ever while I sit there..

Pros and Cons, but don't make me back up etc cause you HAVE to back in..

For our trucks at work we are required to park in spots where we can pull out to reduce backing accidents. So that means backing into spots when we first pull in or parking in a center aisle so we don't need to back up.
Besides.. Backing into spots is one of the ways you distinguish a man from a woman

It's easy to pull out and safer for truck owners. Plus, it annoys the wife :)

its interesting back in China everyone backs into parking spaces you can hardly find a car that pulls in forward. Also, I was in a parking structure in LA where they had signs that said "Do not back into parking spaces"...why would they have that rule??

Just got my Tacoma DC after driving tiny cars for about 3 years. I never used to back into spaces unless I wanted to look cool. Now with the Tacoma the looking cool part is still there but I back in 50% of the time because it is way easier to swing and straighten out with the turning wheels at the back of the motion (front wheels in reverse).

I have to back into my garage here because in SF we have girlyboys on skateboards who like to do 30 on the sidewalk, then we have the illustrious SF pedestrians who storm into your path going "I HAVE RIGHTS I HAVE RIGHTS I HAVE RIGHTS" so having these douches in front of me where I can see them better when I roll out of the garage keeps me lawsuit-free:D

Almost a ditto. Hold over from EMS - we backed our ambulances in, for a faster response time. Now I can't park any vehicle "nose in" perfectly, but I can back up to within inches of an obstacle, perfectly centered.

    You don't want to know...
In the military you are taught to do it for safety (being able to see when pulling out) and as a tactical advantage (quick escape).

In the oil field you are required to do for it safety.

I do it sometimes because I was raised around both.

I don't always do it, but when I do I prefer to drink Dos Equis.
