painting a stainless stell exhaust tip

well...got my exhaust done today, and i used an old stainless tip from my old dual exhaust i had before. ya'll reckon its possible to paint black with some either engine or food grill paint.......the high temp stuff. since im blacking out all the chrome on my truck......i wanna make the tip black....the polished stainless sticks out like crazy.

 

Yeh, sand it down a little bit. Use VHT hight temp paint. You should be able to get it at Oriellys or NAPA

 

Also look for a paint that will adhere to this metal you call "stell."

I can only assume your neck has gotten better so you're back to drinking again, otherwise you wouldn't have made a mistake like that.

But a good thorough sanding should do you well. I know they sell black chrome tips at your local auto parts store too.

 

Yeah, sand it down a bit so the paint will have something to adhere to.

yeah, some places have black tips, but i already had this and decided to use it so i didnt have to spend any more $ on it.

i'll try a good sanding and see how it holds up with some high temp paint.

While you're buying paint (unless you already have some,) check the price of the exhaust tips. I know the one I bought wasn't much more than the paint itself. I got a 2.5" slash cut for about $9 at AutoZone that I'm saving for when I have enough cash for an exhaust.

 

ah, i'll go ahead with the paint, but i had the guy weld the tip on, so its not going anywhere now. i'll just paint it and hope the heat kinda bakes it on a bit.

 

Take pics when its done. I am interested in doing it to mine.

Are you gonna paint with a regular gloss paint, or maybe an undercoating type paint?

I think an undercoating type paint would look pretty cool.

 

well, its gonna probably be more of a flat type paint.....basically the high temp stuff people use to paint cooking grills with.

I just got this trd tip and I want to paint it black.



As you can see in the photo below, the etching is not very deep. I fear sanding or heavy paint make wreck it. Can anyone recommend a "thin" high temp paint?

Lol....been at it for a while.

As for painting ur exhaust......try cleaning and scotchbrite if you don't wanna sand it....then use high temp paint.
