Truck bed...accessories

Has anyone used the small storage boxes from Toyota..they somehow install inside the bed of your truck...Toyota also makes a large unit that runs the width of the bed,towards the cab area.If you do have the small box(es) what is the inner dimentions and how do you like them or what is your dislike of the box(es)?.The reason I'm asking this,I can't seem to justify the $2800--$3000 for the access cab and trying to find an alternative...yes I know,access cab ='s inside storage and the box(es) = outside storage...I get it. TIA

 

I just got an access cab, with the storage boxes in the bed. Put only what you can afford to be stolen in them....They don't lock..

 

Do not lock...oh well,I was just thinking of putting stuff in them that I picked up from shopping.Whats the interior measure sir...if you have the time.

Hi guys-
I have, believe it or not googled this and looked in this site and seem to get conflicting info- so here goes...
If
I were to get an aftermarket truckbox (which is an absolute necessity for my job) AND it was not the OEM one...would driving a metal screw through the boxes wings and into the side rails do some damage? It seems that Toyota reps dont advise doing this (this is an 05 w/86k on it so out of warranty) and most guys here seem to have the OEM or some varaint that uses the side rail systems...HELP!!!!

Hey Frog, I use an inexpensive plastic Contico box I picked up at Lowe's for around $30. I don't lock it, and don't leave anything of value in it. Very handy for throwing a few grocery bags or what-not in. I had it in both my reg cab Tacos, and it's currently in my beater S10 until my new Taco comes in. I put the box right behind the cab, and hold it in place with a cargo bar. The box comes out easily, and if you are carrying anything of relative value in it, you can easily take it out and put it in the cab while you make other stops. We used my last reg cab as our primary vehicle for several months, and it wasn't bad. Sure there were times when an access cab would have been nice, but nothing that had ever made me wish I had an access cab instead of a regular cab.

Those swing cases look pretty nice. I like them better than the small storage box.

frog13 -- If you can somehow talk yourself into getting the access cab, you won't regret it though. You'll wind up using it unexpectedly somehow like I have. I love it. I'll shut up about it though.

I'm shopping for the large toolboxes because I need some place to store a lot of things in. There is a decent thread on another Toyota truck site talking about them.

They have me about convinced I'm going to get the Tacoma Tool Box. It has that OEM look with the Toyota markings and is locking. It's expensive though. Toyota is very proud of it.

I kind of like this one too. It's stores A LOT and doesn't block the rear window really at all. I haven't been able to find where to buy it yet (good thing about OEM is you pick it up at the dealer). Drawback of the deep box is that it is so deep so you couldn't fit lumber or plywood underneath it. Again, I can take no credit for the pics.

I kind of like the idea of the Contico box and the cargo bar too. Then if you need the entire bed of the truck, you just lift the box out. Lots of good ideas here.

Here's the Contico box in my '08 reg cab, which had tie-down rings on the bottom in the front. I didn't get the cargo bar until recently. This is the smaller box, they have a larger one also. I modified the box and made custom (shorter) tie-down straps to hold the box in place.
