access cab doors of any make are a bit sucky. You're closing against another door that has some give.. Just not as solid. Don't crash test well either.
Mine works fine, but its not that solid clunk you hope to get when closing a good quality car.
Took a few months for my GMC to close nicely too.

It might be of some help to know that not all ac's have a problem with doors. So why the derogatory comment?????

Same with mine. And like someone else said, the doors pop open when you open them. They are under some tension from all that gasket stuffed in between door and frame. I'm probably making too much out of it, but it's not what I expected from Toyota for $30K, espcially after my much loved '98. Those doors closed with a solid 'Thunk!", new or 13 yo with 130,000. Like my Grandpa used to say, "They don' make 'em like they used to."

D'oh...looks like I still need to learn how to use the 'quote' feature.

To those who are mentioning the "Tin Can" sound when closing the door, it sounds like the door is either missing the sound deadening mat or the mat is now smaller.

The sound deadening mat is stuck on the inside of the door and makes it sound thick and sturdy instead of thin and cheap which, in reality, they are.

This report of door quality for the 2011 access cab is disturbing. I hope all those affected report the problem and the factory provides a warranty solution.

THey all close suckier than solid trucks.. I won't retract that. They're a bit spongey. Mine close just fine. But everyone I've tried.. and sure that's a narrow scope.. its not as nice as a nice door.

I joined TW because of this problem.

I just bought my 2011 Taco AC SR5 on Saturday. All weekend it pissed me off that the door had to be slammed to close. I took it to the dealer today, Monday, and they tried adjusting it. It didn't help.

I noticed that if I had the window open or the passenger side door open, the door would close without slamming it. I'm now thinking maybe it's an air pressure thing.

Besides the door problem, I love my 2011 Taco. I'm getting ready to sell my 1996 Taco with 256,000 miles on it. Besides going through 2 clutches and a transmission, it was the best car or truck that I have ever owned.

You're exactly right. Give it some time, and the seals will work themselves out a bit, then it'll be better.

A good way to tell if it is the air pressure, is to turn on the fan full blast with the doors and windows closed, and then just open your door. You'll notice a sound/air change in the blowing fan.

As several have indicated, cracking open one of the windows eases the effort to close the door. It's an air pressure thing.

In the late seventies and early eighties I was a lifeguard. During the training on underwater vehicle extrications we were warned that Toyotas and Hondas were "...so darned airtight..." that they would take a long time to fill with water and sink. Lifeguards had to modify their procedures to allow for this. Conversely, Fords and Chevrolets sank like stones.

    Your mileage may vary...

I suppose I read the initial problem incorrectly...I thought the OP and others were complaining about the back doors. Yes, I have noticed that the driver door won't close fully if I give it a weak closing attempt.

So, I went into the garage and played with my doors. With all windows closed and a weak push, neither the driver door nor the passenger door will close fully. They will latch, but not close flush. I rolled a window down a tad and tried again. Both doors closed completely even with pansy pushes. If it were a fitment issue, door size issue, some other door or jam design issue, it wouldn't make a difference if the windows were open. It is just an air pressure issue. I suppose some way of allowing the overpressure to escape would solve the "problem". It's not like I have to slam the hell out of it to get it to close, though...just a mildly purposeful push. I never considered it an issue and still don't.

really? you guys think air pressure is causing it? The "forceful popping" open would indicate that the door, or latch is under too much stress from either one being misaligned.

Unable to get any solutions re-visiting dealer so I contacted Toyota through toyota.com and got a phone call. Man was pleasant but simply said the problems I described were "inherent to the vehicle" and no fix was available.

What lame bullshit. It was not "inherited" from earlier models. My 05 has no door closing issues. Yeah they probably sound different from reg or DC but that's because of the solid door pillars they have. Other than sounding different, they close with light enough pressure, even when all other doors are shut and the windows are all up.

My 2011 Access Cab doors close just fine. No different than my previous trucks, Ford Ranger & Chevy Silverado.
