I wouldn't want to have to pay $7 a gallon for the Taco and my boat. That would suck. Seems a little far fetched though.

    .

FWIW ... I don't see $7.00 per gallon gas this year .... but $5.00 per gallon gas (all over US) is very possible by next year.

Drilling in the gulf won't solve the problems either. The Chinese have been silently buying oil futures in many oil producing nations.

Brokers for state owned Chinese oil interests have been doing this for the last 5 years and now are in an excellent position for cheaper oil for their growth.

We have been sold out by our politicians (both parties) for the last 30+ years and our standard of living is sliding very quickly ... while our debts ratios continue to climb.

Expensive oil will be the least of our worries in the future.

Abundance of natural resources is shrinking at different rates in different places. Currently most of the world procures crude oil using methods from offshore drilling to inland pumping to sand extraction among other things. Problem is that cheap to get oil is harder to come by nowadays and pockets that are known of are either being tapped by someone (ie China or USA). Other option is to go with more costly extractive methods drilling in deeper places etc etc but downside is that price per barrel skyrockets to match production prices. Another thing, of course is stability of nations across the globe that have reserves. Take Saudi Arabia for example. To ship their oil here they either have to travel all the way around continent of Africa or pump it through pipelines into Mediterranean sea or ship it via canals. For obvious reasons places like Panama and Suez play a huuuuuuge role in cost of crude oil. That gets factored into prices and of course it is like a stack of dominoes after that. Food gets more expensive, gas gets more expensive, plastic products get more expensive, commodities that are manufactured from oil or its byproducts gets more expensive.

My advise to everyone is to monitor your driving habits while prices are still reasonably cheap and consolidate your trips into few(er) trips. With time you should be able to cut your "non commute" driving to bare minimum. I know it sucks but ....

Another option is to move closer to work. I am currently saving about $250 in gas per month because I no longer have to drive 25 miles to get to work. My weekly driving is not more than 15 miles and yearly is less than 4000 I think including scuba diving trips.

You guys heard of "sand oil"??? Canada have lots of it. I don't thinks its a good idea because it involves fresh water, that we don't have a lot of. It takes oil to get oil. Expecting rising gas prices this summer, Great!

ummm.... you must not know that canada has more fresh water then everywhere in the world combined right? The province of Manitoba alone has more lakes (number wise not size wise) then the rest of the world combined.
